Role: Contingent Workforce Specialist
Location: UK Remote (Occasional travel to Milton Keynes/London)
Reports to: Head of Talent Acquisition, Global Assurance
We’re building an organisation that meets the challenges of tomorrow. Want to grow with us?
We’re looking for a knowledgeable and solutions-focused Contingent Workforce Specialist to strengthen the way BSI engages and manages its global contingent workforce. Reporting to the Head of Talent Acquisition, Global Assurance, this UK-based role will act as the central point of expertise for contingent workforce governance, helping hiring managers navigate engagement options while ensuring policy, legal, tax and organisational requirements are applied consistently. Working across People, Procurement, Finance, Legal, Tax and business leadership teams, you’ll improve workforce visibility, reduce risk and help embed a sustainable, consistent approach to contingent workforce management across BSI.
Responsibilities:
- Own and oversee contingent workforce governance processes and controls, ensuring consistent application of BSI’s Contingent Workforce Policy, Governance Framework and Operating Manual.
- Oversee worker classification assessments and identify or escalate potential worker misclassification, employment tax, social security, permanent establishment and co-employment risks.
- Manage contingent worker verification, referencing and minimum screening requirements, maintaining clear governance records and audit evidence.
- Oversee the end-to-end contingent worker lifecycle from requisition through to offboarding, while supporting hiring managers to complete their allocated process steps.
- Guide hiring managers on engagement routes, approvals, extensions, workforce transitions and end-of-assignment activities.
- Partner with Tax, Legal and Finance colleagues on cross-border working arrangements, including employment tax, withholding tax and permanent establishment considerations.
- Act as BSI’s subject matter expert for contingent workforce management, building trusted relationships and improving adoption through clear guidance, education and communications.
- Produce governance and compliance reporting, monitoring policy adherence, classification outcomes, worker location data and workforce trends.
- Contribute to the Contingent Workforce Governance Forum, support audits and KPIs, and help shape future technology, operating model and potential managed service provider changes.
To be successful in the role:
- Experience in contingent workforce management, talent acquisition, workforce operations or a closely related field.
- A practical understanding of contingent labour governance, worker classification and compliance requirements.
- Experience operating within policy, governance or control frameworks and supporting process improvement or operational change.
- Confidence working across People, Procurement, Finance, Legal, Tax and business functions in a complex organisation.
- The ability to interpret and apply policies consistently and pragmatically, assess engagement requirements and recommend appropriate routes.
- Strong risk awareness, sound judgement and the confidence to challenge constructively and implement corrective action where needed.
- Excellent planning, coordination and organisational skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities without compromising service or compliance.
- Clear written and verbal communication, strong stakeholder influence and the ability to analyse workforce information and create meaningful reporting.
- A highly organised, accountable and customer-focused approach, with integrity and discretion when handling sensitive information.
