General Accounting Manager

The General Accounting Manager is a key leader within Accounting & Financial Services (AFS), responsible for the integrity, timeliness, and continuous improvement of general ledger accounting, accounting policies, and related financial processes supporting Servco businesses. This high-performing, hands-on leader combines strong technical accounting judgment with people leadership, operational discipline, and a broad enterprise perspective. The Manager helps shape AFS priorities, sets direction for the General Accounting team, develops talent, balances priorities and capacity, and remains close enough to the work to resolve complex issues and step into detailed execution when needed.

The role oversees period-end close, reconciliations, complex accounting analyses, reserves and estimates, fixed asset accounting, selected tax-related accounting, audit support, internal controls, and accounting policy and process governance. The Manager leads change and finance transformation by simplifying and standardizing work, using data to target root causes, and applying responsible AI, automation, analytics, and system capabilities to improve quality, speed, scalability, decision-making, and the employee experience.

KEY OUTCOMES:

• Accounting leadership and financial integrity: Lead General Accounting to ensure financial information is complete, accurate, timely, and compliant with U.S. GAAP and Company policy. Serve as a broader AFS leader who helps shape priorities and maintain a high standard of accounting discipline.
• Accounting policy, controls, and process governance: Own and maintain accounting policies, procedures, standards, and related internal controls. Interpret new or changing requirements, drive consistent application across businesses, maintain current documentation, lead remediation of control issues, and coordinate audit support.
• Complex accounting and judgment: Determine and review accounting for complex transactions, estimates, and reserves, including inventory, deferred revenue, finance and warranty programs, compensation, investments, income taxes, and other significant accruals.
• Close, reconciliation, and system ownership: Own the period-end close and reconciliation process, including close management, task management, and reconciliation systems or modules. Serve as the primary business administrator for these systems, ensuring workflows, templates, and reconciliation standards are maintained and continuously improved.
• Finance transformation and data-driven operations: Lead a prioritized transformation roadmap for General Accounting that improves scalability and modernizes operations. Redesign workflows, eliminate low-value work, implement scalable automation and AI use cases, and establish measures for close, reconciliations, backlog, and automation adoption.
• Technology direction and cross-functional partnership: Help shape the accounting technology roadmap and partner with other departments to translate accounting requirements into effective workflows, integrations, and reports. Influence upstream improvements that strengthen downstream accounting results.
• Business insight and finance partnership: Partner with Corporate Reporting, FP&A, and other finance teams to support reporting, planning, and forecasting. Translate financial results and risks into clear recommendations for finance and business partners, and drive adoption of new ways of working.
• People leadership and organizational capability: Set clear expectations; coach, develop, and hold the team accountable for high-quality delivery. Build capability in technical accounting, process improvement, systems, and responsible AI use. Strengthen succession readiness through cross-training and development planning.
• Workload and execution management: Actively manage priorities, deadlines, and capacity; reallocate work and remove barriers. Balance delegation and oversight with a willingness to dive into detailed work when needed.
• Other accounting responsibilities: Oversee fixed asset accounting; GET and use tax accruals and returns; intercompany eliminations; journal-entry governance; chart-of-accounts coordination; and other special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum seven years of progressive accounting experience required, including at least four years in public accounting, preferably with a Big 4 firm. Accounting management or comparable leadership experience required.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required; active license preferred.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and the ability to translate technical guidance into practical, well-controlled accounting decisions and processes.
• Strong analytical and root-cause problem-solving skills; able to use data to identify trends, distinguish symptoms from underlying issues, and make balanced recommendations.
• Demonstrated ability to establish accounting policies and process standards and to simplify, standardize, and scale work across people, process, and technology.
• Working fluency with modern AI, automation, analytics, and digital tools; able to identify valuable use cases, critically evaluate outputs, and ensure responsible use.
• Advanced Excel proficiency and strong comfort with financial systems and data. Oracle Financial Cloud preferred; DealerTrack or other automotive systems experience is a plus.
• Ability to lead through change, build stakeholder alignment, translate financial matters into business implications, and move effectively between big-picture leadership and detailed execution.
