OVERVIEW
Job Title: UROP Student Assistant
Locations: St. Paul
Pay Rate: $17.70 – 19.00/hr
Hours: 20 hours/week. All hours must be scheduled Monday-Friday between 9 am and 5 pm. Some scheduled hours must coincide with special events, with dates determined at the beginning of each term. 12-month position.
The UROP Student Assistant will work closely with their supervisor in the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program & Excel! Research Scholars to support all aspects of the program’s functions, including planning, communication, and marketing.
Duties:
- Maintain work communication with supervisor in person and via Microsoft Teams.
- Update the UROP/Excel! OneStThomas site as needed. Maintain and build web photo directories of participating awardees.
- Represent UROP/Excel! in person at tabling and other events.
- Assist with application intake, data management, decision communication, and grant administration for UROP/Excel! programs.
- Assist in monitoring the [email protected] email inbox and create/send some communications on behalf of the program.
- Plan and execute on-campus marketing campaigns for programs, events, and fundraising. Launch off-campus marketing campaign and alumni outreach via the UROP LinkedIn page.
- Support selection, events, and supplementary advising for the current cohort of Excel! Scholars throughout the year.
- Create print and digital graphics, document layouts, and social media campaigns using Canva.
- Design and compile digital and print publication versions of semiannual Inquiry Poster Session Abstract Booklet.
- Assist with event planning and setup, including professional development activities for summer researchers throughout the summer.
- Perform information and data gathering projects as needed. Create reports for supervisor.
- Collaborate with Center for Student Achievement student interns as needed to promote program activities and successes.
- Work with supervisor to identify and launch special projects.
- Take minutes for Undergraduate Research Board meetings.
Responsibilities:
- Keep up with assigned tasks.
- Seek out and request additional training and help as needed.
- Represent UROP on campus as strongly as possible through clear communication and increasing familiarity with the program’s purpose and goals.
- Learn and use Microsoft Office applications, SharePoint, and Qualtrics.
Transferable skills:
- Enhance and practice communication skills.
- Gain experience with event planning, programming, web content management, data management, and marketing.
- Request office, communication, and campus-related projects that fit your goals.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be enrolled and degree-seeking in a degree program at the University of St. Thomas. Graduate students strongly preferred.
- Understanding and knowledge of the following tools is helpful, but not required:
- Content Management Systems
- Qualtrics Survey Platform
- Canva
- Canvas learning management system
- Other St. Thomas-based systems and processes for communication, service requests, and event planning.
Desired skills:
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent listening skills.
- Attention to detail and motivation to improve work product and gain independence with feedback.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Products, especially Word and Excel.
- Willing to learn and to explore new ideas and projects.
- Motivated to connect other St. Thomas students to opportunities.
Hiring preference will be given to students who can schedule work time at least 4 out of 5 week days during fall and spring semesters.

To be eligible for student employment, St. Thomas students must be degree seeking at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
