Platform Engineer

First Orion is seeking a talented Platform / DevOps Engineer to join a leading call protection and branded calling company. The Platform / DevOps Engineer builds and operates secure, scalable, resilient cloud platforms that enable product and engineering teams to deliver software safely and efficiently. This role combines software engineering and systems engineering practices to automate infrastructure, improve delivery pipelines, strengthen observability, support production services, and reduce recurring operational work. The engineer works across development, quality, operations, security, and product teams to improve reliability and accelerate delivery.  

What you’ll be doing: 

• Design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure using reusable infrastructure-as-code patterns.  

• Develop and improve continuous integration, delivery, and deployment pipelines across development, test, and production environments.  

• Provision and operate secure, high-performance, fault-tolerant environments for applications, products, and shared services.  

• Implement monitoring, dashboards, alerting, and operational telemetry that improve service visibility and response effectiveness.  

• Participate in on-call support, troubleshoot complex production issues, contribute to incident response, and drive corrective automation.  

• Create and maintain runbooks, work instructions, operational guides, and other documentation that standardizes support and improves operational excellence.  

• Automate routine operational tasks, reduce manual toil, and continuously improve platform reliability, performance, and maintainability.  

• Administer and improve Linux-based systems, container platforms, and supporting cloud services.  

• Manage patches, upgrades, backups, security controls, and vulnerability remediation according to company and compliance standards.  

• Partner with software engineering, QA, operations, security, product, and performance teams to design, test, release, and support solutions.  

• Identify opportunities to modernize legacy technologies and migrate workloads to more efficient, automated, and supportable platforms.  

• Use source control and peer-reviewed engineering practices to deliver reliable infrastructure and automation changes.  

What you’ll need: 

• Experience in platform engineering, site reliability engineering, DevOps, cloud operations, or a closely related role.  

• Hands-on experience designing, operating, and troubleshooting AWS-based environments, including multi-account or multi-tenant architectures.  

• Experience defining infrastructure with Terraform or a comparable infrastructure-as-code tool; familiarity with configuration formats and automation tooling such as YAML or Ansible.  

• Experience implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with tools such as AWS CodePipeline, Bitbucket Pipelines or comparable platforms.  

• Practical experience with containers, Docker, AWS ECS, Kubernetes and microservice architectures.  

• Linux systems administration experience, including installation, patching, upgrades, backup practices, and security maintenance.  

• Ability to automate with at least one scripting or programming language such as Python, Go, or Bash.  

• Experience with Git-based version control and collaborative code-review workflows.  

• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills across applications, infrastructure, networks, and distributed services.  

• Working knowledge of relational databases and SQL, including querying data and understanding schemas.  

• Clear written and verbal communication skills, a collaborative working style, and the ability to operate effectively in an Agile, multidisciplinary environment.  

• Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and support production services. 

Bonus Points: 

• Experience in telephony, communications, call-protection, or data-provider environments.  

• Experience with core AWS compute, networking and database services, Databricks or another lakehouse or big-data platform.  

• Experience with REST APIs, gRPC services, DynamoDB or other NoSQL databases. 

• Experience designing or operating high-performance, low-latency, fault-tolerant systems.
