The Role

As a System Administrator at Kyndryl, you’ll solve complex problems and identify potential future issues across the spectrum of platforms and services. You’ll be at the forefront of new technology and modernization, working with some of our biggest clients – which means some of the biggest in the world.

There’s never a typical day as a System Administrator at Kyndryl, because no two projects are alike. You’ll be managing systems data for clients and providing day-to-day solutions and security compliance. You’ll oversee a queue of assignments and work directly with technicians, prioritizing tickets to deliver the best solutions to our clients.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain IBM Z Mainframe I/O configurations using HCD and IOCP.
• Develop, manage, and validate IOCDS definitions and configuration changes.
• Support IBM Z processor upgrades, CPC activations, hardware refreshes, and infrastructure modernization initiatives.
• Configure and manage channel paths, control units, DASD, tape subsystems, and FICON infrastructure.
• Perform I/O configuration planning, validation, testing, and production implementation activities.
• Support data center relocations, site migrations, hardware migrations, and disaster recovery site swaps.
• Coordinate hardware installation, implementation, and activation activities with vendors, data center teams, and stakeholders.
• Validate production IPL readiness and support IPL planning, execution, and post-implementation activities.
• Manage LPAR configurations, PR/SM resources, and channel path utilization to ensure optimal system performance.
• Collaborate with storage, network, systems programming, and operations teams to support enterprise infrastructure requirements.
• Participate in GDPS and disaster recovery planning, testing, and implementation activities.
• Support SAN connectivity, FICON Directors, enterprise storage integration, and storage migration projects.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, configuration standards, operating procedures, and implementation plans.

Required Technical Skills

• 5+ years of experience in Mainframe I/O Configuration.
• Strong expertise in HCD (Hardware Configuration Definition) and IOCP (Input/Output Configuration Program).
• Experience in IOCDS generation, activation, and maintenance.
• Strong understanding of FICON architecture and channel subsystem design.
• Experience with DASD configuration, enterprise storage management, and tape infrastructure.
• Knowledge of IBM Z CPC hardware design, configuration, and administration.
• Experience with z/OS IPL planning, execution, and support.
• Channel path management, optimization, and performance tuning.
• Experience in hardware migration planning and execution.
• Understanding of GDPS concepts, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
• Experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2016/2019 administration.
• Hands-on experience with VMware ESXi and virtualization technologies.
• Knowledge of public/private cloud environments and migration from on-premises infrastructure.
• Experience with Active Directory and AD FS administration.
• Exposure to vulnerability management, security compliance, and infrastructure hardening.
• Experience with automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) technologies.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

Preferred Experience

• IBM Z Mainframe Hardware and I/O Configuration certification or equivalent experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with IBM HCD and IOCP.
• Experience with FICON Directors, SAN connectivity, and enterprise storage integration.
• Knowledge of IBM DS8000 and other enterprise storage platforms.
• Experience supporting IBM Z CPC upgrades, PR/SM, LPAR configurations, and processor migrations.
• Familiarity with GDPS, high-availability solutions, and disaster recovery environments.
• Experience with z/OS IPL processes, HMC administration, and system activation procedures.
• Knowledge of Parallel Sysplex and multi-site mainframe environments.
• Experience with data center transformation and hardware migration projects.
• Familiarity with automation, scripting, configuration management, and cloud automation technologies.
• Ability to collaborate with infrastructure, storage, network, and application teams to ensure high availability and operational excellence.
