Intern - Design Engineering

Eaton’s IS AER MSD division is currently seeking a Intern - Design Engineering.

The hourly rate for this position is $22.15 - $26.96 per hour.

## What you’ll do:

As a Design Engineer Intern at Eaton's Mission Systems Division you’ll be a member and active contributor of a Product Development Team. In this role you’ll have the opportunity to utilize skills and theory learned in the classroom and apply them to real-world problems in the Aerospace Industry.

Job Responsibilities:

• Apply fundamental mechanical or electrical principals and physics to designs.

• Complete basic engineering investigations and tasks as assigned.

• Collaborate with experienced engineers to provide follow-up and engineering assistance on defined problems.

• Participate as a team member, help define/refine methods, and actively contribute towards team goals.

• Follow technical documentation requirements and engineering processes.

• Execute design, analysis, and testing/test setup tasks based on direction from Senior Engineers.

• Help the team progress through the current Design Phase of an active project (Development or Qualification).

• Participate in daily project team meetings and provide update on assigned tasks.

## Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

• Actively enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or Engineering Technology.
• Have junior standing or higher.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher (please don't round).
• Relocation is not offered for this role. Must reside within 50 miles of Orchard Park, New York.
• This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and requires access to export-controlled information. To conform to U.S. Government export regulations applicable to that information, applicant must either be (A) a U.S. person, defined as a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (green card holder), (iii) refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, (B) eligible to access the export controlled information without a required export authorization, or (C) eligible and reasonably likely to obtain the required export authorization from the applicable U.S. government agency. The Company may, for legitimate business reasons, decline to pursue any export licensing process.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Completed Junior or Senior year in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering at the start of the internship.

• Have a working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of software including, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

• Have some working knowledge of MATLAB, or other mathematical modeling software.

• Experience with SolidWorks 3D modeling software.

• Experience with design for additive manufacturing.

• Understanding of drawing standards and application of GD&T.

• Advanced circuit knowledge (op amp topography, low/high pass filters, MOSFETs/BJT).

• Experience with schematic design software (OrCAD, Altium, etc.).

• Experience with circuit simulation in LTSpice such as generating Bode Plots for filters.

• Basic Arduino usage and programming.

• Basic understanding of EMI and how to counter act it (decoupling caps, trace lengths, etc.).

## Technical Knowledge:

• Understanding of electrical and lab safety.

• Understanding of basic mechanical and dynamic principles.

• Experience with 3-D modeling software.

• Ability to read a technical drawing.

• Basic circuit understanding (i.e voltage divider, pull up resistor, diode).

• Breadboarding or soldering for circuit construction.

• Laboratory equipment usage (DVM, Oscilloscope, power supplies).

• Ability to read electrical schematic.
