SDY Research Coordinator - Coroner's Office

The Research Coordinator advances public health objectives under a Centers for Disease Control and

Prevention (CDC) Cooperative Agreement by implementing strategies that strengthen the quality, 

completeness, and timeliness of sudden death in the young (SDY), child death investigation data, and other

 medicolegal death data as indicated. The incumbent supports surveillance, prevention, analysis and data 

driven decision making within the Charleston County Coroner’s Office.

**This is a grant-funded position. The duration of a grant-funded position is contingent upon the

availability of grant funds appropriate for the position.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $60,840 - $79,684 (Estimated Annual Salary)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  (Order of Essential Functions does not indicate importance of functions.)

*Identifies all county cases that meet reporting requirements and maintain accurate, complete documentation for each case. 

*Maintains a Case Master List by entering new cases and performing regular updates to meet project benchmarks. 

*Analyzes data to provide information on burden, risk factors, and opportunities for prevention, with a focus on identifying public health disparities Facilitate Advanced Reviews for SDY and other death investigations as indicated 

*Enters all case information from Advanced Review, including review team prevention and identified risk factors into the National Fatality Review Case Reporting System (NFR-CRS) or other systems as indicated.?? 

*Provides data analysis, develop graphics, and support numerical contributions to the annual report; offer recommendations for continuous improvement. 

*Co-manages medicolegal death data spreadsheets used internally to capture information not included in the primary registry. 

*Supports the project Work Plan, including developing and monitoring Performance Measures, Evaluation Plan/Logic Model, and Progress Reports.

*Conducts quality assurance reviews on SUID/SDY and other medicolegal cases as directed

*Performs other duties or assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned.

*Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Public Health, or related field of study required. Master’s degree preferred. 

*Experience in biostatistics or data analysis is highly desired. 

*Prior experience in clinical research, preferred. 

*Experience with Public Health Data, preferred.

*Must be able to demonstrate advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365.

*Must possess a valid SC Driver’s license (or obtain within three (3) months of hire) and meet the requirements of the County’s motor vehicle policy.
