Senior SDET - Platform [Remote-US]

The Role

We’re looking for an accomplished, well-rounded Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to help build the shared quality engineering platforms, tools, and automation frameworks that enable our QA and engineering teams to deliver reliable, secure software.

This is a hands-on engineering role at the intersection of software development, quality engineering, security testing, and AI enablement. You’ll turn common testing challenges into reusable solutions, develop and evaluate AI-assisted testing capabilities, and integrate quality and security checks directly into engineering workflows.

You’ll collaborate across QA, Engineering, and Security to create solutions teams can trust and adopt at scale. Just as importantly, you’ll help shape shared testing practices, mentor others, and measure how our tools improve coverage, reduce manual effort, and accelerate feedback.

Your Day-to-Day

• Design, build, test, and maintain shared automation frameworks, internal services, and developer tools that serve multiple QA and engineering teams.
• Partner with QA and engineering teams to identify common testing needs and validate functionality, integration, reliability, performance, and usability across application and platform layers.
• Build and evaluate AI-assisted and agent-based testing capabilities using repeatable evaluations, human oversight, appropriate tool permissions, and fallback behavior for unreliable results.
• Develop and automate security testing for APIs, applications, and shared platforms, including authentication, authorization, access boundaries, and sensitive-data handling; partner with Security teams to validate findings and verify fixes.
• Test AI-enabled tooling for incorrect outputs, prompt injection, information exposure, unintended actions, and behavior when inputs or dependent services fail.
• Integrate reusable quality and security checks into CI/CD workflows, supported by actionable diagnostics, maintainable test data, clear documentation, and compatibility across supported environments.
• Investigate failures and production issues in shared tools and platforms, using targeted experiments and operational feedback to assess correctness, reliability, maintenance effort, and cost.
• Drive adoption through documentation, demonstrations, and mentoring while establishing shared testing practices and measuring improvements in test coverage, manual effort, and feedback time.

About You

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Typically 6–8 years of experience in software testing, including 3+ years building test automation frameworks, quality engineering tools, or shared testing platforms.
• Strong programming skills, including Python, with experience applying software design, automated testing, code review, and maintainability practices to shared frameworks and tools.
• Broad hands-on testing experience across APIs, services, user interfaces, and platform integrations, including functional, integration, reliability, and performance testing.
• Hands-on experience building and evaluating AI-assisted testing solutions, including agent workflows, variable outputs, evaluation criteria, tool permissions, data protection, and failure handling.
• Experience delivering reusable tooling for multiple teams, with practical product thinking, clear documentation, stakeholder collaboration, and support for adoption and ongoing maintenance.
• Strong experience with cloud environments, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and observability, including integrating test frameworks and quality checks into engineering workflows.
• Hands-on security testing experience covering authentication, authorization, API security, and sensitive-data handling, with the ability to automate checks, investigate findings, and collaborate with security specialists.

Bonus Points

• Experience owning internal developer or QA products through design, implementation, rollout, support, and continuous improvement.
• Experience evaluating AI safety and robustness, including prompt injection, unintended tool actions, and information leakage.
• Experience building shared capabilities for test data, test environments, quality reporting, or diagnostics.
• Experience establishing testing standards and enabling adoption of shared quality engineering practices across teams.

Salary: $198,000 to $281,000*

*Please note that the final salary offered will be determined based on the selected candidate's skills, and experience, as well as the internal salary structure at Quanata. Our aim is to offer a competitive and equitable compensation package that reflects the candidate's expertise and contributions to our organization.

• Location: We are a remote-first company for most positions so you may work from anywhere you like in the U.S, excluding U.S. territories. For most positions, occasional travel may be requested or encouraged but is not required. Some positions might require travel per the job description provided to the employee. Employees based in the San Francisco Bay Area or in Providence, Rhode Island may commute to one of our local offices as desired.  
• Hours: We maintain core meeting hours from 9AM - 2PM Pacific time for collaborating with team members across all time zones.
