As an EMS Education Instructor, under the direction of the Program Director and Program Manager, you will instruct and supervise students in the classroom and clinical settings for assigned courses. In this role, you will develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum, conduct clinical site visits, maintain student records, and support other school operations to ensure an effective and successful educational experience.

This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working days/evenings/weekends

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Instruct assigned EMS courses in the classroom and laboratory setting including lecturing, instructing lab sessions, and other classroom duties as assigned.

• Execute laboratory sessions based on lab agendas provided by the program, identifying equipment needs and enacting course plan including instruction, supervision of simulated skill practice, and evaluation of student performance when required.

• Offer one-on-one tutoring on practical skills and didactic material to EMT and Paramedic Students.

• Assist with the maintenance of accurate inventory of all EMS program supplies and equipment.

• Make recommendations to Program Director regarding equipment/product purchases.

• Assist with written test administration and evaluation.

• Evaluate students in clinical/field internship rotations as necessary.

• Submit student evaluations to the Program Coordinator.

• Establish cooperative working relationship with community health and EMS organizations and agencies.

• Demonstrate continuing competence and currency in the professional discipline and teaching methodologies through a variety of activities, such as professional work experience, graduate education, continuing education, research, and other forms of professional growth. 

• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

• High School Diploma or GED 

• Five years of EMS experience as an EMT, Advanced EMT, or Paramedic (Two years of the required five years of experience must be as a paramedic)

• State of Ohio Paramedic Certification

• Basic Life Support Instructor – American Heart Association (BLSI) obtained within 12 months

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Instructor - American Heart Association (ACLSI) obtained within 12 months.

• Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor - American Heart Association (PALSI) obtained within 12 months.

• ITLS Instructor (International Trauma Life Support) instructor certification obtained within 12 months

• FESI (Fire and Emergency Services Instructor, Level II) course completion obtained within 90 days of hire

• Knowledge of computers and ability to become proficient with software used for instructional purposes

• Ability to produce documents on a PC

• Ability to communicate clearly

• Excellent public speaking skills

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

• Associates degree or higher

• National Registered Paramedic certification

• Three years of experience as a paramedic

• Previous teaching experience

Physical Requirements:

• Extensive travel from place to place at the work location and to travel between work locations

• Working in a stationary position for extended periods

• Occasional moving or transporting up to 25 pounds.

• Ability to manipulate and move patients.

• Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
