Description
About Auxia
Auxia is an agentic AI platform that helps enterprises deliver personalized 1:1 customer journeys. Our Decision Agent determines the optimal message, timing, channel, and incentive for each individual user — processing 3B+ events/day, 25K+ queries/second, and 1B+ decisions/day at sub-100ms latency.
We serve global enterprises including Atlassian, The Guardian, Docomo, Comcast, Mercari, and MUFG Bank across email, push, in-app, and messaging channels. Backed by $23.5M from VMG Technology Partners, Stage 2 Capital, and MUFG Innovation Partners.
We are a company founded by a group of senior leadership in marketing and engineering at Google. Since then, we have brought onboard a range of skilled data scientists, engineers and more, from companies such as Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, Lyft and DoorDash.
We’re scaling our organisation to match our domestic and global needs, and we need exceptional people to help us get there. That’s where you come in.

The Role
Auxia is currently in the process of expanding its presence for the growing needs of the Japanese market. For this, we are expanding our data science function in Japan to help us build a platform that can succeed in the Japanese and global markets.
As a Senior Data Scientist, you will be solving business critical problems across a range of domains. You’ll be trusted to solve some of the hardest problems in the company. In a typical working week, you will be:
-
Helping our customers teams to understand their business problems, and assisting our AI PMs in creating scalable ML solutions for our Japanese customers.
-
Architecting and advancing large-scale recommender and ranking models powering adaptive customer journeys.
-
Leading experimentation frameworks that bridge causality, personalization, and business impact.
-
Working with our Data Science and Engineering teams based in Palo Alto, Bengaluru & Tokyo to help extend our models into the core Auxia product, deployable and referenceable for future global use-cases.
-
Taking learnings and lessons learned from Japanese customers, turning this into feedback, tooling and documentation that can be used for future product roadmapping.
-
Staying ahead of the curve by bringing ideas from academia and industry research into production.
What You Bring
-
B.Tech/M.Tech/PhD or related course in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field.
-
Built and shipped personalization, ranking, and recommendation models in production.
-
Strong working knowledge of causal inference and sequence architectures such as transformers.
-
Mastery of PyTorch / TensorFlow, and the Python data ecosystem (NumPy, Pandas, SciPy).
-
Strong SQL against large-scale data warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake).
-
Strong applied experience with LLMs, information retrieval, and reinforcement learning.
-
Strong product sense, with the ability to balance research depth and real-world impact.
-
An entrepreneurial, ownership-driven mindset — the ability to ship, iterate, and scale models fast.
-
Japanese language proficiency of JLPT N2 level equivalent or higher.
-
English working-level proficiency.
How We Work
-
AI-native development. We use Claude Code extensively - for code generation, architecture exploration, code review, debugging, and documentation. Engineers here ship faster because they're fluent with AI-assisted development. We're building internal AI agents to automate parts of the DS and engineering workflow. We’re excited to see how far we can get with AI-driven development - and it’d be great if you share that excitement, too.
-
Small team, high ownership. ~30 engineers across US, India, and Japan. No layers between you and production. You'll own systems end-to-end - design, build, deploy, monitor.
-
Primarily Onsite in Tokyo. We believe the best engineering happens in-person, especially at our stage. We’d love to have you in the same room as us during this exciting time.
-
Ship weekly, not quarterly. Ideas go to production in days, not months. You’ll have full ownership to ship models, experiments, and more on rapid iterations.
Auxia is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
