Are you a Senior Roads Engineer ready to step into a leadership role, or an experienced leader looking to make a greater impact on major transport infrastructure projects?
This is an opportunity to combine your technical expertise with people leadership, shaping the delivery of complex road infrastructure projects while developing and mentoring a high-performing engineering team.
Working across a diverse portfolio of transport projects, you'll play a key role in leading road design delivery, supporting project success, and growing road engineering capability within a respected multidisciplinary engineering environment.
The Opportunity:
As the Roads Team Lead, you'll provide both technical and people leadership to a team of roads engineers delivering transport infrastructure projects throughout Western Australia. Reporting to the Discipline Manager - Civil, you'll remain hands-on in project delivery while helping drive team performance, capability development, resource planning and technical excellence.
This role has a strong focus on Main Roads WA projects and requires a leader who can confidently navigate road planning, concept design, detailed design, design assurance, and construction support activities.
Key Responsibilities:
You'll be responsible for:
- Leading and mentoring a team of road engineers and designers
- Delivering road design packages from concept through to detailed design and construction support
- Providing technical oversight and guidance across transport infrastructure projects
- Ensuring compliance with Main Roads WA standards, Austroads Guides, Australian Standards and project-specific requirements
- Supporting design reviews, technical assurance activities and Safety in Design processes
- Managing interfaces across drainage, pavements, structures, traffic, utilities, environmental and geotechnical disciplines
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, stakeholders and project teams
- Supporting project planning, forecasting, budgeting and commercial delivery objectives
- Contributing to bids, proposals and business development activities
- Driving continuous improvement, technical excellence and knowledge sharing within the team
Skills & Experience Required:
- A Bachelor of Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification
- 12+ years' experience in roads engineering design
- Demonstrated experience delivering road and transport infrastructure projects
- Strong knowledge of Austroads Guides, Australian Standards and road authority requirements
- Experience working on Main Roads WA projects and applying MRWA standards and supplements
- Proven capability in road geometry, alignment, intersection and multidisciplinary transport design
- Experience leading, mentoring or developing engineers and technical teams
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Commercial awareness and the ability to balance technical quality with project outcomes
- Chartered Engineer status (or progress towards chartership) will be highly regarded
Desirable Experience:
Experience in any of the following will be advantageous:
- Alliance, Design & Construct or major infrastructure project environments
- OpenRoads Designer, AutoCAD and AutoTURN
- ProjectWise, Bluebeam and GIS platforms
- Construction support, staging and traffic management interfaces
