SkyLink Control Center Operator

What you will be doing:

• Monitors and controls all aspects of the Skylink APM system using computer consoles, electronic monitors, power distribution, and communication systems to ensure safe and efficient operations.

• Responds to real or potential emergencies by implementing failure management strategies, coordinating with emergency responders, and ensuring passenger and system safety.

• Uses independent judgment to manage system performance, ensuring adherence to procedures, monitoring performance and offering guidance and training to incoming control operators.

• Analyzes system performance and service level requirements, making data-driven decisions to enhance reliability and efficiency.

• Monitors weather conditions and system security, including communication systems and CCTV, to declare weather-related SkyLink alerts or emergencies and ensure customer service.

• Maintains a detailed, accurate log in real-time and updates the Skylink Submission Portal of significant SkyLink events for record-keeping and review.

• Ensures the safe operation of the Skylink Electrical system by managing the 750 VDC flow and compliance with operating standards, while preparing, identifying and performing Lockout Tag Out procedures in accordance with operational guidelines.

• Assists Airport security by implementing the Breach of Security violation plan in compliance with TSA and Airport Board policies, and coordinates with the Department of Public Safety (DPS) for emergency response and security issues.

• Assists with the investigation of accidents, incidents, and complaints, resolving issues related to system users, passengers and tenants.

• Mentors and trains new controllers and less experienced controllers, providing on-the-job guidance and acting as an advisor to help them develop their skills.

• Performs other related duties as assigned. 

What you need

• Completion of high school curriculum or equivalent.

• Three (3) years of experience with console control systems in a real-time environment, such as Airport Operations Centers, Rail, Public Transit, Public Safety dispatch or Government/Military operations facilities.

• Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above.

• Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities

• Knowledge of automated train control systems, including safety protocols, electronic reporting, power distribution and real time environment troubleshooting.

• Knowledge of electromechanical and electronic systems and their role in automated operations.

• Skill in using office software and technology to support efficient operations and manage systems.

• Skill in computer technology, systems analysis, and software applications used for system monitoring and issue resolution systems and their role in automated operations.

• Skill in communication and ability to engage effectively with colleagues, passengers, and airport staff, both in writing and verbally.

• Skill in creative problem-solving, with a focus on resolving complex issues effectively by evaluating multiple factors.

• Skill in troubleshooting and supporting field teams, to quickly restore operations.

• Skill in delivering exceptional customer service and building positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

• Ability to successfully complete Skylink Central Control Operator Initial Certification Test within the six (6) month probationary period and maintain proficiency through routine testing.

• Ability to analyze data from multiple sources and make quick, informed decisions in real time situations.

• Ability to thrive under pressure, multitask, and manage multiple information streams at once.

• Ability to interpret, and enforce regulations, ensuring compliance and clarity in procedures.

• Ability to work rotating shifts or extended hours, including 12-hour shifts when needed or assigned.

• Ability to pass a color vision deficiency test.

• Ability to assess complex situations, identify solutions, and document actions clearly in both routine and emergency contexts.

• Ability to thoroughly evaluate facts to follow through and effectively document actions taken.

Special requirements

• This is a DOT-designated and Airport-designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport’s Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass drug and alcohol tests prior to employment and to submit to drug and alcohol screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.

• Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Airport Identification/Access Badge (badge) in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements in Chapter 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 1500 et. Al. and DFW Airport’s Airport Security Program within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for a SIDA badge upon each badge renewal.

• This is a designated Essential Employee position as defined in DFW Airport’s Categories and Classifications Administrative Policy and Procedure. An essential employee is one whose attendance is required to maintain airport operations during an emergency or inclement weather situation.

Desired

• Experience with automated people mover (APM) systems or similar transportation technologies.

• Certification in emergency management or incident response, with the ability to handle high-pressure situations effectively.

• Experience with system troubleshooting and the ability to work with technical teams to resolve issues quickly.

• Advanced knowledge of safety and security protocols relevant to transit systems and public spaces.

Effort

• Works in an operations command center using various equipment to monitor and control system operations.

• Applies abstract and logical reasoning to problem-solving and real-time system analysis.

• Utilizes advanced technology, including the monitoring of CCTV, radio and telecommunications equipment to ensure system functionality and security.

• Communicates effectively through multiple channels, such as telephone, public address system, two-way radio, and in person interactions, to coordinate operations and share information.

• Maintains sustained focus for extended periods, monitoring the Skylink system to ensure safe and efficient operations at all times. 

• Remains calm and decisive in emergencies, reacting quickly and logically to address critical situations.

• Uses visual acuity and color perception to monitor electronic displays and ensure system integrity.
