As a Qualcomm Video BSP Software Engineer, you will design and develop software solutions for Qualcomm IE-IOT SoC platforms spanning Linux and RTOS environments, enabling high-performance imaging, video, and camera subsystems in edge AI and industrial applications. Your work will focus on camera sensors, ISP pipelines, video processing, and platform bring-up, supporting surveillance, smart devices, retail systems, robotics, and edge AI products.
Qualcomm Staff Video BSP Engineer collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess and advance the application of company products that meet and exceed customer needs.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, develop, and maintain device drivers and BSP software for camera-related subsystems including Sensors, ISP, CSI, and video processing components on Linux and RTOS platforms.
- Implement and optimize kernel drivers, middleware, and low-level software components to meet performance, power, latency, and reliability requirements.
- Port and adapt software across multiple operating systems, SoC platforms, and product generations.
- Perform hardware-software integration and platform bring-up on FPGA emulation systems, development boards, and production silicon.
- Conduct system-level debugging, performance profiling, and memory/power optimization.
- Support camera enablement, video capture, ISP tuning integration, and system validation activities.
- Collaborate with hardware, system architecture, validation, and product teams to ensure robust and production-ready system delivery.
- Support secure boot, fast boot, power management, and Always-On Video (AOV) use cases.
- Analyze and resolve complex software, platform, and system integration issues during development and customer deployment.
- Provide technical support to ODMs, customers, and ecosystem partners for software integration and issue resolution.
- Prepare and present technical documentation, design reviews, and engineering status updates.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on BSP architecture, debugging methodologies, and software development best practices.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
Video BSP Software Design & Development
- Strong expertise in embedded software development using C/C++.
- Extensive experience developing Linux kernel drivers and BSP software.
- Proficiency in software architecture, module design, and system integration for embedded SoC platforms.
- Experience working across kernel space and user space software boundaries.
Camera & Video Subsystems
- Understanding of image processing data flows and performance bottlenecks.
- Strong knowledge of camera and video subsystems including:
- Image Sensors
- MIPI CSI
- ISP pipelines
- Video encoding and decoding pipelines
- Camera framework integration
Platform Architecture & System Software
- Knowledge of ARM-based SoC architecture.
- Familiarity with MMU, IOMMU, SMMU, DMA, interrupts, and synchronization mechanisms.
- Experience with Linux device trees, power management frameworks, and boot flows.
- Experience with FPGA bring-up, hardware emulation environments, or pre-silicon development.
Validation & Debug
- Hands-on experience with:
- GDB
- JTAG debuggers
- Logic analyzers
- Performance profiling tools
- Strong root cause analysis and complex system debugging skills.
- Experience optimizing software for performance, power consumption, and memory footprint.
Collaboration & Communication
- Strong collaboration skills with hardware, architecture, validation, product, ODM, and customer teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to lead technical discussions and drive issue resolution across geographically distributed teams.
Tools
- Proficient with GCC/Clang toolchains.
- Experience using Git and modern software development workflows.
- Familiarity with Yocto, Buildroot, and embedded Linux build systems.
- Proficient with Microsoft 365 tools and modern AI-assisted engineering workflows.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field and 8+ years of embedded software engineering experience.
- OR Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field and 6+ years of embedded software engineering experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 10+ years of embedded software development experience.
- 5+ years of Linux BSP or device driver development experience.
- Strong experience with camera, ISP, or video subsystem software development.
- Experience with MIPI CSI, ISP tuning integration, and video processing pipelines.
- Experience working with Ambarella, Novatek, SigmaStar, Amlogic or similar embedded SoC platforms.
- Experience with FPGA emulation or pre-silicon software development.
- Familiarity with secure boot, trusted execution environments, and system security architectures.
- Experience with Always-On Video (AOV), low-power camera applications, or edge AI camera systems.
- Experience with CI/CD infrastructure, automated testing, and Agile software development methodologies.
- Experience supporting customer projects and delivering production-ready camera and video solutions.
- Ability to travel internationally as required by project schedules.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field and 4+ years of Hardware Applications Engineering or Hardware Design experience or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field and 3+ years of Hardware Applications Engineering or Hardware Design experience or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field and 2+ years of Hardware Applications Engineering or Hardware Design experience or related work experience.
