Description

Coho Integrated Solutions are seeking an experienced Orthopedic Technician to support the Orthopedic Clinic at the 96th Medical Group, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. The Orthopedic Technician will assist physicians and nurses with orthopedic procedures, apply and remove orthopedic devices, provide patient instruction, maintain clinical supplies, and support the safe and efficient operation of the orthopedic clinic.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Assist physicians and nurses with orthopedic procedures, including wound care, aspirations, minor surgical procedures, and fracture reductions.
  • Properly fit and apply pre-operative braces, crutches, soft goods, casts, splints, and other orthopedic appliances.
  • Assist with preparation and application of casts and orthopedic appliances.
  • Change dressings and remove sutures, casts, and splints as directed.
  • Instruct patients on cast and traction care and proper use of orthopedic appliances.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked cast and soft-goods areas.
  • Order and maintain special supplies and equipment as required.
  • Support clinic data collection and information management activities.
  • Remain current with orthopedic trends, procedures, supplies, and equipment.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations in accordance with facility procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, Joint Commission, AAAHC, Clinical Practice Guidelines, and applicable 96th Medical Group policies.
  • Participate in professional development, clinic huddles, quality assurance activities, and other assigned duties.

 Essential Job Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Citizenship:
    • U.S. citizenship is required for this contract position
  • Education and Certifications:
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Additional training or education supplemented by at least one year of related experience in an accredited healthcare hospital
    • BLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • Certification as an orthopedic professional through the American Society of Orthopedic Professionals (ASOP) or National Board for Certification of Orthopedic Technologists (NBCOT), as specified by the contract
  • Required Experience:
    • Experience must demonstrate familiarity with hospital or clinic routines and orthopedic procedures.
    • Required experience must have been obtained within the past 24 months
  • Required Skill and Competencies:
    • Knowledge of orthopedic procedures, equipment, appliances, and patient care practices
    • Ability to assist with casting, splinting, bracing, wound care, and other orthopedic procedures
    • Strong patient communication and education skills
    • Knowledge of patient privacy, HIPAA, customer relations, and patient advocacy
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, internet applications, and established databases
    • Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare personnel
  • Work Schedule & On-Call Requirements:
    • The position requires a minimum of 40 hours per week, generally Monday through Friday between 0630 and 1630, with shifts generally consisting of nine hours including a one-hour unpaid lunch
    • The technician participates in a rotational on-call schedule, generally one Monday-through-Sunday week no more than once every four weeks per FTE. Telephone response is required within 10 minutes, and when physical reporting is required, the technician must be able to arrive within 45 minutes after responding or within 60 minutes of the original call
  • Physical Requirements:
    • The employee must be capable of meeting the physical demands associated with orthopedic clinical duties and patient care
