MAIN FUNCTION:
The RN is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated timeframe and provides care to these patients via therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment/instrumentation, and other health care team members. The RN is expected to perform their duties according to established standards of care and the core values established by the Division of Nursing. Reports to assigned Unit Director.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and collect ongoing physiological, psychological, and cognitive data to develop individualized nursing diagnoses and care plans.
- Develop, implement, and continuously evaluate patient-centered plans of care based on identified needs, expected outcomes, and clinical priorities.
- Deliver skilled, safe, and compassionate nursing care while ensuring continuity of care and adherence to established standards and protocols.
- Educate patients and their families regarding treatment plans, health conditions, and self-care needs to support positive health outcomes.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and concise patient documentation in compliance with organizational, legal, and regulatory requirements.
- Respond effectively to emergency situations by following established procedures, coordinating care, communicating with appropriate personnel, and documenting events.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, patients, and families to coordinate care, promote quality outcomes, and ensure effective communication.
- Demonstrate professional accountability by adhering to nursing policies, ethical standards, safety guidelines, and evidence-based practice.
- Provide leadership through effective delegation, problem-solving, resource management, and support of unit operations and staffing needs.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, continuing education, professional development activities, and organizational committees to enhance patient care and nursing practice.
EDUCATION:
Current NYS nursing licensure, limited permit or eligible. Excellent communication skills and writing ability.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Appreciable physical effort required; lifting, pulling, pushing, and moving patients of various size, capabilities and abilities. Some lifting, reaching, and stooping. Required to be on feet much of the time.
