The Medical Assistant is an active member of the outpatient team who works under the guidance of the outpatient nurse manager to provide services to adults who are experiencing serious and/or chronic mental health disorders. This includes taking vital signs, drawing labs, completing EKG’s, medication refills, prior authorizations, and assisting nurses, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and psychiatrists.. The Medical Assistant may be required to perform blood draws at inpatient locations on occasion, which requires travel within the Spokane community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Performs venipuncture and basic lab procedures.
Obtain vital signs
Conduct EKG’s
Support nurses, nurse practitioners, and psychiatrists in the provision of patient care, e.g., medication refill requests and prior authorizations.
Report suspected changes in patient condition and/or potential crisis situations to the RN manager.
Provide verbal redirection and gradual guidance to patients if needed and role model appropriate behavior including utilizing de-escalation techniques that align with FBH provided training.
Attend/participate in required trainings, meetings, and supervision sessions.
Perform FBH charting requirements, correspondence, Workday and other paperwork in a complete and timely manner
Establish and maintain collaborative working relationship with all RNs, providers and FBH staff.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFIED APPLICANTS WILL HAVE:
REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or GED.
Active Washington Medical Assistance Certification.
BLS certification or must obtained within 90 days of hire.
PREFERRED:
1-2 years of experience in a behavioral health setting
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral formats, including the ability to complete objective clinical documentation.
Ability to communicate with individuals of various backgrounds, education levels, and socio-economic status.
Must have basic computer skills including ability to document in an electronic medical record, use electronic time tracking, and use of Outlook, Word, Excel, and the intranet.

Work is generally performed in a clinic setting, which may involve sitting and use of computers for 4-8 hours per day.
May be required to lift 10 - 20 pounds.
Blood-borne Pathogen Category I – Chance of blood-borne pathogen exposure.
BASE PAY RANGE (Hourly/ Non-Exempt): $24.30- $29.60
All pay is based on longevity at Frontier Behavioral Health; thus the starting base pay for this position is $24.30 per hour.
