Description

 

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily maintenance operations, including scheduling, task assignment, and the repair and upkeep of technical facilities, equipment, and mechanical systems. This role ensures all maintenance activities support safe, reliable, and efficient facility operations. We are seeking a proactive, self-directed leader with a strong work ethic, a collaborative mindset, and a positive attitude. Key Accountabilities

Leadership & Operational Management

  • Lead, schedule, and support maintenance technicians and product support service technicians; assign daily tasks and monitor progress and performance.
  • Lead, influence and foster an environment of teamwork, cooperation, and collaboration where team members complete their best work.
  • Manage in‑house maintenance activities (planned and reactive) and oversee outsourced mechanical, electrical, and specialty contractors.
  • Ensure all planned maintenance is completed on time, within budget, and aligned with operational needs.
  • Respond promptly to equipment or building alarms and resolve facility or system failures to minimize disruption and protect animal welfare, business continuity, and revenue-generating operations.
  • Maintain facility equipment lists, documentation, and detailed repair histories.
  • Oversee timely completion of maintenance work orders, records, and documentation.

Technical Maintenance & Support

  • Direct and assist technicians and contractors with electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and HVAC maintenance and repairs.
  • Support troubleshooting and diagnosis of equipment malfunctions.
  • Oversee dismantling, installation, calibration, and repair of industrial machinery and facility systems.
  • Interpret and apply specifications, technical drawings, schematics, and job orders.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of spare parts and manage critical parts availability.

Safety, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Promote, create and maintain a safe working environment for employees and visitors.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety procedures, regulations, and company policies.
  • Review and approve contractor risk assessments and method statements.
  • Develop and implement safety, energy‑reduction, and risk‑mitigation strategies, including evaluating Building Management Systems (BMS).

Strategic Planning & Continuous Improvement

  • Recommend and implement improvements to maintenance processes, equipment performance, and operational efficiency.
  • People: Develop staff, manage workloads, performance optimization to create a team environment.
  • Support facilities projects, outsourced contract development, and enhancements to the CAFM system.
  • Obtain and evaluate vendor quotes while ensuring adherence to procurement policies.
  • Collaborate on plant replacement strategies and long‑term maintenance and refurbishment planning aligned with the Estates strategic plan.
  • Develop, monitor, and report on departmental Key Performance Indicators.

Minimum Requirements

  • 3–5 years of relevant maintenance or technical experience.
  • Post-secondary certification in a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and industry/leadership experience.
  • Qualifications in mechanical or electrical disciplines.
  • Experience supervising maintenance teams and managing external service providers.

Preferences

  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, procedures, and regulations.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work with limited standardization.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and schedules simultaneously.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; comfortable engaging with staff and leadership.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to provide feedback, direction, and accountability.
  • Availability for rotational weekend work and on‑call responsibilities.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements                                                            

  • Willingness to work non‑standard hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, as needed on call availability for facility-related issues or emergencies.
  • Physical mobility, including the ability to walk, sit, and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments throughout all seasons, including high, low and varying temperature conditions and odors.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks quickly and efficiently.
  • Manual dexterity to bend, lift, use tools, climb ladders, and operate a computer; includes gripping, twisting, and other repetitive motions.
  • Work may require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, dust masks or respirators, safety glasses, and hearing protection, as well as exposure to potentially hazardous materials.

Anticipated salary range: $80,000– $120,000 annually, adjusted according to the level of the role and the candidate’s relevant experience and/or education.

*This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience.  The salary range will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person’s relevant experience and/or education level.
