Overview
Mercy Clinic Women's Health is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented, and customer-focused Patient Services Representative to join our team at our Ladue Road OB/GYN practice. As the first point of contact for our patients, you will play a vital role in creating a welcoming experience while supporting the daily operations of a busy women's health clinic.
The ideal candidate is an experienced healthcare professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys helping patients navigate their healthcare journey, and demonstrates exceptional communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
What You'll Do
As a Patient Services Representative, you will:
- Welcome patients and verify demographic and insurance information in a courteous and professional manner.
- Manage patient check-in, check-out, appointment scheduling, and registration activities.
- Answer incoming phone calls and assist patients with inquiries and appointment needs.
- Create and maintain accurate patient records in Epic and other electronic systems.
- Process scanning, faxing, mail distribution, and general clerical duties.
- Review schedules and coordinate with providers and clinical staff to ensure efficient patient flow.
- Notify patients of delays and help maintain a positive patient experience.
- Schedule procedures, diagnostic testing, and specialty appointments as needed.
- Provide surgical and procedural estimates and Good Faith Estimates in accordance with the No Surprises Act.
- Resolve patient concerns and complaints with professionalism and empathy.
- Manage work queues and assist with accounts receivable activities.
- Balance and reconcile daily cash drawer transactions.
- Establish payment plans and assist patients with financial questions.
- Maintain confidentiality and protect patient health information in compliance with HIPAA and Mercy policies.
- Serve as a resource and change champion for new initiatives and Epic updates.
- Help maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming reception area in accordance with Infection Control guidelines.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and support staff to promote exceptional patient care.
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
- Demonstrated proficiency in Patient Services Representative and Advanced Patient Services Representative competencies.
- Previous healthcare, medical office, OB/GYN, women's health, or physician practice experience preferred.
Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance verification, billing, and registration processes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent customer service and patient relations abilities.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records and basic computer applications.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information.
- Effective problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to multitask and remain organized in a busy clinical environment.
- Adaptability and professionalism under pressure.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to occasionally lift, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand and walk throughout the workday.
- Ability to bend, kneel, reach, twist, squat, and perform routine office functions.
