About the Job
High School Social Sciences/History Teacher (On-Site Classroom Instructor)

Teach in a personalized, small-group environment where students can catch up, stay on track, or get ahead through flexible and honors-level pathways.

Location: On-site | Pinnacle Charter Schools – Tempe Campus, Tempe, Arizona

This is not a remote role.

About Us:
Pinnacle Charter Schools, operated by MGRM Pinnacle, is a Cognia-accredited network of charter schools serving students across Arizona since 1995. We offer a flexible, year-round instructional model that blends online learning with in-person academic support at our school sites.
Our approach is built around Personalized Learning Programs (PLPs) that allow students to move at their own pace—whether they are catching up, staying on track, or getting ahead through honors-level coursework and accelerated pathways.

We serve a diverse student population with varying academic goals and life circumstances. Some students benefit from additional support and flexibility, while others are motivated to accelerate, take on more rigorous coursework, or pursue a non-traditional path to graduation. At Pinnacle, we prioritize individualized learning, strong relationships, and meaningful academic progress.

The Opportunity:
We are seeking a dynamic and adaptable High School Social Sciences/History Teacher (On-Site Classroom Instructor) to join our Tempe Campus.

In this role, you will work directly with students in a small-group, personalized learning environment, supporting the development of historical understanding, civic knowledge, research, analysis, critical thinking, and effective communication skills. Your classroom will include students working at different academic levels—from those requiring additional support with foundational concepts to those pursuing advanced or honors-level Social Sciences coursework.

This role may support coursework across areas such as U.S. History, World History, Government, Civics, Economics, and other Social Sciences subjects.

This position is ideal for educators who enjoy:
  • Teaching history, government, civics, economics, and related Social Sciences subjects.
  • Helping students connect historical events and social issues to broader themes, ideas, and contemporary contexts.
  • Supporting both intervention and enrichment across Social Sciences coursework.
  • Working closely with students through 1-on-1 and small-group instruction.
  • Helping students strengthen research, source analysis, evidence-based reasoning, writing, and critical thinking skills while progressing toward graduation.

What You'll Do:
  • Provide daily on-site instruction and academic support in Social Sciences and History through 1-on-1 and small-group learning sessions.
  • Support students in developing historical knowledge, civic understanding, research, source analysis, evidence-based writing, and critical thinking skills.
  • Guide students through coursework that may include U.S. History, World History, Government, Civics, Economics, and honors-level Social Sciences studies.
  • Help students analyze primary and secondary sources, evaluate evidence, understand multiple perspectives, and develop well-supported conclusions.
  • Provide targeted intervention for students who need additional academic support while offering enrichment opportunities for advanced learners.
  • Review student work and provide timely, constructive feedback to strengthen content knowledge, reasoning, research, writing, and analysis.
  • Monitor academic progress and implement interventions or enrichment strategies to promote measurable growth.
  • Build strong relationships with students to foster motivation, accountability, confidence, curiosity, and academic independence.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, academic progress, and interventions.
  • Support a small roster of online students with instruction, feedback, and progress monitoring.
  • Communicate regularly with students and families to support engagement and success.
  • Participate in professional development and staff collaboration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support school operations and student success.

What You Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, History, Social Sciences, Political Science, Government, Economics, or a related field (Master's or higher preferred).
  • Arizona Teaching Certificate in History, Social Studies, Secondary Education, or a related field, or the ability to obtain one. Highly qualified candidates with advanced degrees (Master's/PhD) or significant subject-matter expertise are encouraged to apply.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and support students in history, government, civics, economics, research, source analysis, writing, and critical thinking.
  • Strong instructional skills with an emphasis on differentiated instruction, individualized learning, inquiry-based learning, and student-centered teaching practices.
  • Ability to help students evaluate information and sources, develop evidence-based arguments, and understand historical events and social issues from multiple perspectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to support diverse learners across a range of academic levels, including students needing additional support as well as those pursuing accelerated or honors-level work.
  • Ability to build a structured yet flexible classroom environment that promotes both accountability and independence.
  • Comfort working in a non-traditional, blended learning model, including the use of learning management systems and digital tools.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with students, with the ability to motivate, engage, and hold students to high expectations.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills.
  • A growth-oriented and adaptable mindset, with a willingness to contribute to both academic instruction and broader school initiatives.

Why Join Us:
  • Work in a flexible, personalized learning environment that moves beyond traditional classroom models.
  • Support students across a spectrum of academic goals, from credit completion to honors and acceleration.
  • Teach Social Sciences in a setting that allows for individualized discussion, inquiry, research, and critical thinking.
  • Build meaningful relationships through small-group and individualized instruction.
  • Be part of a collaborative, mission-driven team.
  • Enjoy a stable, year-round teaching role with consistent support and structure.
  • Work with a model that supports both academic recovery and advanced, honors-level progression.

Salary for this position is competitive and based on prior experience. We offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, life insurance, and employer retirement contributions.
