Job Description Summary

This position will lead and collaborate with student success employees, instructional faculty, college leaders, and community partners to develop and implement transition and retention strategies. The role will coordinate the development and delivery of services to support students at risk of not completing their programs, assess and address barriers to academic success, and connect students with appropriate institutional resources. This position will also partner with student support services, academic departments, and community agencies to ensure that district-wide transition and retention services are accessible, and will identify external resources for referrals to enhance students success and degree completion.

Job Description

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position.  Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily to be qualified for the position.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Collaborate with service agencies and school districts to identify and connect with students whose aspirations for education are consistent with FVTC programs.
  • Provide individualized support and ensure that students complete the College application, FAFSA, program requirements, and are connected with related support systems. This will involve follow-up with contacts via phone, email, text, etc.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with Student Services staff and program faculty to develop and implement programs and strategies to increase the transition and retention to programs. Ensure implementation and follow-up with students.
  • Provide personalized guidance to participants in navigating post-secondary education and career readiness.
  • Analyze data and identify students at risk for persisting or not completing courses and/or programs.
  • Provide supportive services (i.e. case management); advise students with identifying obstacles and barriers that may interfere with their educational goals. Help students explore options for overcoming these anticipated obstacles and/or barriers, including providing appropriate referrals to college and community resources, assisting with resolving questions and concerns on academic policies, procedures and standards, and educating students on how to use the appropriate College resources to accomplish academic goals.
  • Coordinate and assist with activities at the Oshkosh Campus and in the regional centers in cooperation with Student Services, Academic and the Regional Center Operation Managers.
  • Provide program planning information to students regarding programs of study, program and course content, course selection, prerequisites, recommended credit load, advanced standing process, registration and graduation.
  • Provide wraparound support including financial literacy, academic assistance, and career counseling.
  • Participate in team activities related to operational planning, training development and delivery, scheduling and document daily activities for reporting/tracking purposes.
  • Assess and quantify the outcome of programs and strategies developed for student retention and success, evaluate personnel and college resources involved in process and provide recommendations and feedback.
  • Develop and maintain statistics on numbers of agency contacts, one-on-one discussions, visits to FVTC, new student applications, Accuplacer tests completed, new enrolled students, and first to second semester persistence for assigned caseload.

Non-Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provide assessment (ACCUPLACER) interpretations and referrals for remediation and educational support services.
  • Participate as requested in meetings and planning relative to short term and long-term planning on student retention and success.
  • Develop and manage federal and/or state grant activities for at risk students.
  • Develop relationships with external agency representatives to support at risk students in attaining community-based services such as additional mental health agencies, medical resources, financial assistance, and legal advocacy.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (Psychology, Student Development, etc.) required
  • A minimum of two years of recent, related experience which includes responsibility for working with students in providing advising and/or guidance in a college educational or transitional program, AND
  • Demonstrated experience working with and leading faculty and counselors in assisting students in developing personal plans (establish career, educational, and/or employment objectives and steps/services needed to accomplish)

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements: 

  • Demonstrated experience with developing and using collaborative relationships and to identify and engage necessary resources to facilitate the accomplishment of work goals required.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with a diverse student population required.
  • Knowledge and experience regarding the needs of students with multiple educational barriers is required.
  • Ability to assess outcomes, quantify results, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to read, write and speak a second language is preferred.
  • Experience with Student Information Systems is preferred.
  • Flexibility in schedule is required, including nights and weekends.

Work Environment

  • Work must be completed primarily in person with occasional opportunities for virtual work
  • Work may be completed at other locations.  

Work environment may change based upon college needs.

Physical Requirements

  • Sitting: This role requires extended periods of sitting while performing tasks and utilizing computer systems.
  • Mobility: While much of the work is desk-based, occasional mobility may be necessary for attending meetings, office tours, or events within the workplace.
  • Repetitive Motions: Capacity to perform repetitive motions, such as typing, without discomfort or injury.
  • Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting with employees, candidates, and stakeholders, both in-person and through electronic means.
  • Travel:  Ability to travel to other locations is required.

Additional Information

Starting Range: $57,100 - $67,200 per year. 
Pay is based on a multitude of factors, including experience, qualifications, education, relevant certifications, internal equity, and market data.  
Note: Internal applicants' wage will be based upon the applicable compensation guidelines.
