The Chemical Loader is responsible for the safe handling, transfer, loading, and unloading of raw materials, chemical intermediates, and finished products. This position supports manufacturing operations by ensuring materials are transported and shipped safely, accurately, and in compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and transportation regulations. The Chemical Loader is responsible for operating material handling equipment, completing shipping documentation, and maintaining a safe and organized work environment. Additional tank farm operations such as gauge or sample shipping tanks and test them for leaks.

Essential Functions

• Reports To: Logistics Manager
• Verify tank car, barge, or truck load numbers to ensure car placement accuracy based on written or verbal instructions.
• Observe positions of cars passing loading spots into the correct positions at the appropriate times.
• Operate specialized material handling equipment such as railroad tank car unloading equipment.
• Monitor product movement to and from storage tanks, coordinating activities with other workers to ensure constant product flow while conducting tank to tank transfers.
• Record operating data such as products and quantities pumped, gauge readings, and operating times, manually or using computers.
• Check conditions and weights of vessels to ensure cleanliness and compliance with loading procedures.
• Operate industrial railcar mover.
• Connect ground cables to carry off static electricity when loading and unloading tank trucks.
• Seal outlet valves on tank cars, barges, and trucks.
• Remove and replace tank car dome caps, or direct other workers in their removal and replacement.
• Gauging tanks and/or reading meters, in order to verify contents, temperatures, and volumes of liquid loads.
• Test vessels for leaks, damage, and defects, and repair or replace defective parts as necessary.
• Unload railcars containing liquids by connecting hoses to outlet plugs and pumping compressed air into cars to force liquids into storage tanks.
• Copy and attach load specifications to loaded tanks.
• Start pumps and adjust valves or cables in order to regulate the flow of products to vessels, utilizing knowledge of loading procedures.
• Obtain product samples and send to laboratory for quality testing.

Education Qualifications

• Required High School or Equivalent High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
• Process Technology degree or relevant chemical manufacturing experience

Work Qualifications

• 1 Year Experience in chemical manufacturing, material handling, shipping, logistics, or related industrial operations preferred

• Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule and be on call, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
• Ability to compile, read, and compute, and interpret data
• Basic mathematical skills and strong attention to detail.
• Ability to follow written procedures, safety requirements, and supervisor instructions.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively in a team environment.
• Basic to Intermediate level computer skills in Microsoft
• Willingness and ability to participate in the facility emergency response team.
• Able to pass the pre-employment test
• Commitment to safe work practices and compliance with company environmental, health, and safety policies.

• New hires will also be evaluated under a 30/60/90 day probationary period

Licenses and Certifications

• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license Required
• Able to obtain TWIC Card and pass background check

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

• Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long periods of time, up to 12 hours per day.
• Sitting. Working from a seated position for up to 12 hours per day.
• Climbing. Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, ramps and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms multiple times per day.
• Balancing. Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing or crouching on narrow or slippery surfaces.
• Stooping. Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
• Kneeling. Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
• Crouching. Bending the body downward and forward by bending legs and spine.
• Reaching. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
• Pushing. Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force consistently to move objects in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
• Pulling. Using upper extremities to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force consistently in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
• Lifting. Raising objects up to 50 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds consistently from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position.
• Grasping. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
• Subject to environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
• Subject to extreme heat. Temperatures above 100 for periods of more than one hour.
• Subject to vibration. Exposure to movements of the extremities or whole body. Operate/drive utility vehicle
• Subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
• Must be able to wear appropriate PPE for tasks as required. FRC uniform, hard hat, safety toe work boots, respiratory protection, safety glasses, chemical googles, face shield, gloves etc.
