RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a quality control role within a steel, manufacturing, or laser cutting environment.
Strong understanding of engineering drawings and tolerances
Experience with measuring equipment (verniers, micrometres, gauges, etc.)
Proven experience in ISO 9001 quality systems and audits
Exposure to laser cutting, CNC, or fabrication processes (highly advantageous)
Strong background in quality control and assurance
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS
Grade 12/ Senior Certificate
Relevant qualification in Quality Management / Mechanical or Industrial Engineering / Manufacturing (advantageous)
Job Purpose:
To ensure that all materials processed through the cut-to-size laser line meet internal quality standards and customer specifications. The role is responsible for conducting internal and external quality inspections, implementing quality assurance processes, and driving continuous improvement in product quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Quality Control & Inspection in line with Internal and ISO9001 Quality standards
- Perform routine in-process and final inspections on all laser-cut materials. (Pre loading and post production)
- Verify dimensions, tolerances, surface finish, and edge quality against drawings and specifications. (incoming and outgoing material)
- Conduct first-off inspections before production runs commence.
- Ensure correct material grades and thicknesses are used per job requirements. (Ensuring correct transfer of detail from Customer order to Jobcard to ensure no shortfalls or room for misinterpretations)
- Monitor and record quality results, highlighting deviations.
- Responsible for conducting First Article Inspection (FAI) in accordance with applicable quality standards.
2. External Quality Assurance
- Conduct final inspections prior to dispatch to customers.
- Ensure all outgoing products meet customer specifications and contractual requirements.
- Compile and issue quality documentation (e.g., inspection reports, material certificates, delivery quality packs).
- Liaise with customers on quality queries, complaints, and corrective actions where required.
- Callouts to customer when required.
- Conduct inspections at third‑party suppliers for outsourced work in accordance with quality requirements.
3. Internal Quality Assurance
- Implement and maintain quality control procedures and checklists for the laser line.
- Ensure adherence to company quality standards and ISO requirements (if applicable).
- Identify root causes of defects and drive corrective and preventative actions (CAPA).
- Work closely with production teams to minimize rework, scrap, and non-conformances.
- Ensure all materials are clearly identified and marked with the required information in accordance with drawings and customer requirements.
4. Non-Conformance Management
- Raise and manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
- Investigate quality issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Track and report on quality trends and recurring issues.
5. Process Improvement
- Continuously assess the laser cutting process for quality improvements.
- Assist in developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for quality.
6. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate inspection records and quality logs.
- Provide regular reports on quality performance (KPIs, defects, rework rates).
- Ensure all documentation is properly filed and easily retrievable for audits.
7. Health & Safety Compliance
- Ensure all inspections are conducted in line with health and safety standards.
- Promote safe handling of materials and adherence to PPE requirements.
- Ensure that the work floor is clean, neat, and tidy, prepared at any time for an external customer walk through.
