Why this role matters

The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of Australia’s largest providers of alcohol and other drug (AOD) programs including withdrawal management, residential and non-residential rehabilitation, and harm reduction programs. Salvos services go beyond addressing the core issues and challenges associated with problematic substance abuse and provide participants a place of hope, compassion, and dignity to recover safely.

Make a Difference When It Matters Most

At The Salvation Army, we support people through some of the most challenging stages of their recovery journey. As an Enrolled Nurse at the Townsville Recovery Services Centre, you’ll provide compassionate, evidence-based clinical care to participants undertaking alcohol and other drug (AOD) withdrawal.

This is more than a nursing role. You’ll be there when people need skilled care, calm support and someone in their corner.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you’ll provide safe, person-centred nursing care throughout the withdrawal and rehabilitation process.

  • Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, conduct nursing assessments, clinical observations, monitoring and interventions in accordance with relevant AOD withdrawal guidelines and TSA policies.
  • Work collaboratively with medical officers and the multidisciplinary team to support safe and effective clinical care.
  • Administer, dispense and accurately document medications within your scope of practice.
  • Willingness to work across the adult and youth rehabilitation areas when needed
  • Support participant admissions, orientation, care and discharge processes.
  • Complete accurate clinical documentation, progress notes and comprehensive handovers.
  • Identify and respond to clinical risks, escalating concerns appropriately.
  • Support participants experiencing complex or challenging behaviours with professionalism, empathy and respect.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and best-practice clinical service delivery.
  • Promote a culturally safe, trauma-informed and recovery-focused environment.

What You’ll Bring

  • You’re a confident and compassionate Enrolled Nurse who can remain calm under pressure and understands the importance of providing safe, respectful care during withdrawal.
  • Enrolled Nurse qualification with current AHPRA registration.
  • Minimum two years’ relevant nursing experience, ideally within AOD, mental health, withdrawal management or a similar environment.
  • Knowledge of AOD withdrawal management guidelines and evidence-based clinical practice.
  • Strong clinical assessment, triage and decision-making skills.
  • The ability to respond confidently to changing clinical presentations and crisis situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly when supporting people experiencing complex or challenging behaviours.
  • Current Blue Card – mandatory for Townsville and Mount Isa.
  • Current CPR certificate.
  • Current Driver’s Licence – preferred.
