 DEFINITION

Under the general direction of the Senior Services Supervisor, the Senior Day Center Project Coordinator has responsibility for the development and operation of the Senior Day Center Caregiver Program. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Serve as a representative of the City of Mesquite, demonstrating a positive attitude and progressive actions through the display of professionalism, courtesy, and appropriate tact and discretion in all interactions with other employees and with the public.
  2. Develop, plan, and organize all phases of operations of the Senior Day Center Caregiver program.
  3. Implement and maintain appropriate fiscal program and volunteer records, files, and reports.
  4. Assist with hiring, training, and supervising adequate volunteer staff to efficiently carryout, maintain and develop operations of the Senior Day Center Caregiver Program
  5. Adhere to and administer personnel policies and procedures for Senior Day Center staff consistent with those of the City of Mesquite.
  6. Recruit, select, and orient volunteers; responsible for outreach; seek and identify seniors 60 and older that may qualify, assess, and recommend for the program. 
  7. Enhance the total efforts of Senior Day Center through active involvement with community organizations, where appropriate.
  8. Implement agreed upon performance measure and other Title III-E Innovation Projects grant requirements.
  9. Represent the City at meetings and events with other agencies and the public as requested.
  10. Plan, develop, and implement ongoing public relations opportunities, including social media, in cooperation with City of Mesquite.
  11. Prepare promotional materials including flyers, brochures, and press releases.
  12. Purchase supplies, materials and equipment related to the program.
  13. Attend, lead and participate in staff meetings and training sessions.  Attend and participate in professional meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of senior citizen services or gerontology.
  14. Arrange for formal and regular recognition of volunteers, organizations and individuals who have contributed to the support of Senior Day Center; Provide ongoing support to Senior Day Center volunteers; Appraise volunteer performance to ensure program efficiency.
  15. Be dependable and meet acceptable attendance requirement at all times.
  16. Follow all applicable rules and regulations.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Responsible for the management of the Program, which occurs three times per week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
  2. Functions as a working project manager, actively involved with community organizations, and volunteers.
  3. Abide by City of Mesquite's established procedures for internal review and its standard policies and procedures.
  4. May participate in activities to coordinate Senior Center program resources with those of related local agencies, boards, or organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The degree of knowledge and ability as outlined under this section is that which is necessary to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of this position.

 Knowledge of:

  • Pertinent local, State and Federal laws, ordinances, and rules.
  • Health & Safety procedures.
  • ADSD Service Specifications Family Caregiver Support Services.
  • Management skills and computer literacy.
  • Report writing and performing presentations, as well as training requirements.
  • Excellent communication techniques and skills, both written and oral.

Ability to:

  • Be flexible; attend after hours and weekend meetings/events if required.
  • Have personal transportation (essential).

Experience, Education and Training:

Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience which provides the individual with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

Education:     High School Diploma or GED. Bachelor’s Degree in Recreational Management, CNA or a closely related field preferred.

Experience:     Training and/or experience in working with senior population, caregivers, and volunteers is essential. 

License or Certificate:  Must possess at the time of employment and continuously throughout employment a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483.
