In this position, you will lead structural engineering projects involving bridges, tunnels, stations, and other transit facilities under supervision of Principal Structural Engineer. Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, you will provide technical expertise, develop innovative engineering solutions, and help ensure the safety, reliability, and long-term performance of BART's critical infrastructure.

The most qualified candidate for this position will have highly developed competencies beyond the minimum qualifications in the following areas, which will be reinforced with related work experience and will be clearly articulated during the selection process:

  • Design experience on structural engineering projects for transportation or other large public infrastructure.
  • Experience developing structural engineering solutions independently, or with very minimum guidance.
  • Knowledge of structural design, seismic engineering in high seismic zone, and applicable California building codes and engineering standards.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing engineering calculations, plans, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Expertise in assessment and retrofit of existing buildings (ASCE 41).
  • Expertise in using design software for structural analysis (ETABS, RAM, SAP2000, SAFE, etc.), general collaboration software (i.e. BlueBeam Studio) and CAD and BIM software (e.g AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks etc.).
  • Knowledge of structural products and costs.
  • Ability to develop expertise and awareness of innovations in the industry.
  • Demonstrable expertise in one or more specific types of structures or major components (i.e. steel. Concrete, timber, high-rise cores, etc.)
  • Experience working effectively with engineers, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders to complete projects.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills, and registration as a California Professional Civil Engineer (PE).
  • Ability and willingness to work during nights and weekends, as needed.

Application & Selection Process

All applicants must apply online at www.bart.gov/jobs. Applications must be completed in full and include all requested information, including dates of employment, positions held, hours worked, and a detailed description of duties performed.

Only information included in the application at the time of submission will be used to determine whether applicants meet the minimum qualifications for the position. All application materials must be submitted by the closing date and time listed on the job announcement. Applications received after the closing deadline will not be considered.
