To plan, prioritize, oversee and review a variety of maintenance activities for an assigned crew; to perform highly responsible technical duties including overlaying streets, examining and maintaining equipment, preparing worksites for safety and providing training as needed.

SUPERVISION

General supervision is provided by the Street Supervisors.  Responsible for directing the work of Equipment Operators, Concrete Finishers and Maintenance Workers.

  • All behaviors comply with the Code of Conduct & Rules of Behavior outlined in Chapter 8 of the General Government Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in city and department attendance policies and procedures
  • Plan, assign, oversee and review the work of designated staff involved in street and drainage maintenance, repair and construction work including asphalt and concrete work, mud-jacking, crack-sealing, sanding and channel cleaning; provide training and direction; work with employees to correct deficiencies. May assist in the timely, accurate and thorough Performance Reviews for supervised employees
  • Operate and maintain a variety of highly complex equipment including graders, rollers, loaders, backhoes, trucks, forklifts, jackhammers, air compressors, electrical saws, pavers and other similar equipment and machinery in repairing, installing and removing asphalt, concrete and other related materials in various weather conditions. Drive as assigned by Supervisor.
  •  Keep abreast of current laws, rules and regulations regarding the safe operation of equipment.
  •  Prepare site location including placing barricades and warning signs for safety; build, paint and repair barricades as necessary.
  • Clean and prepare site location for construction; install or repair infrastructure; clean work site when maintenance activities are completed.
  • Clean assigned equipment and related parts.
  •  Inspect and restore equipment fluid levels including oil, fuel, water and transmis­sion fluid; lubricate equipment as needed; perform minor repairs on assigned equipment; report the need for major repairs.
  • Prepare and process grade shots to remove high or standing water in streets and drainage areas; barricade high water areas as needed; clean streets and drainage areas following severe weather conditions including high water
  •  Operate sanding trucks; distribute sanding materials on roads under freezing and snowy conditions.
  •  Identify equipment needs for each assigned site; prepare and organize work methods and procedures; transport assigned staff to work location; ensure proper materials and tools are available to the assigned staff when they are needed.
  • Assist with the repair and construction work of streets and drainage maintenance including trimming trees, utility repairs, installing speed bumps, paving levelups, potholes and street overlays, cleaning drainage pipes and streets, spreading, leveling, raking, tamping and rolling asphalt and asphalt patches and sealing cracks; provide advice as necessary.
  •  Estimate and schedule material ordering of concrete or asphalt for work crews.
  • Substitute in supervisor absence performing office duties and coordinating work crews.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide technical support to assist division staff in the completion of their duties and responsibilities
  • May participate in a variety of activities involving travel between various City facilities and to other related external business and government agencies which may include site repair, cleaning, construction or inspection and retrieving repair and construction materials.
  •  Answer questions and provide information to the public as necessary.
  •  Respond to emergency situations as requested including hazardous and severe weather conditions.
  • Collect and assign daily schedules; report all daily work to appropriate division staff member; report progress or lack of progress to supervisor; verify employee timesheets including accurate times and proper format.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

 High School Diploma or GED.

 EXPERIENCE

One (1) year of lead or supervisory experience in street and drainage maintenance and construction.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
 
Possession of a valid driver's license

Must obtain a Class A commercial driver's license within 90 days of employment as a condition of continued employment.  Failure to obtain a Class A driver's license within 90 days of employment will result in non-disciplinary termination

Monday - Friday from 6:30 am - 3:00 pm
