Junior Developer

Rialtas, part of the global Harris Computer family, is looking for a motivated Junior Developer to join our development team and help build, maintain, and improve the software solutions our customers rely on.

Working closely with experienced developers and the wider team, you'll have the opportunity to develop your technical skills, contribute to real-world software projects, and learn how to design, build, test, and maintain reliable software solutions. You'll be supported as you grow your knowledge and take on more responsibility over time.

This is a full-time, fully remote position, with occasional visits to our office in Uffcott, Wroughton near Swindon, easily accessible from Junctions 15 and 16 on the M4.

What you will do

Your key responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):

• Work with senior developers and AI coding agents to design, build, and maintain software applications and components, learning our repositories’ conventions and standards as you go.

• Learn to brief an agent well — giving it the right files, context and constraints so what it produces fits our codebase — and to recognise when an approach isn’t working and needs rethinking.

• Write clean, well-structured code under guidance, whether you wrote it or an agent drafted it, following our engineering standards and existing patterns in the codebase rather than reinventing them.

• Review AI-generated specifications, plans and code rather than taking them at face value: learn to spot where an agent has guessed, invented something that doesn’t exist, or drifted from the ticket, and to ask when you’re unsure.

• Help write and interpret tickets, understand requirements, and ask clarifying questions before work begins, in line with our “ask before assuming” approach.

• Support the testing and proof stages of a change: writing or running automated tests where they exist, and producing clear before/after evidence where they do not.

• Take part in reviewing the blast radius of a change (what else it could affect) and carry out structured manual verification steps.

• Participate in code reviews and the correction loop, learning to treat testing and review findings as an expected, normal part of shipping good work.

• Help keep documentation, tickets, and shared standards files up to date — including the standards and instruction files our agents work from — so learning is captured for the whole team, not lost in conversation.

• Get involved in exploring and championing effective use of AI development tools (such as Claude) as part of everyday delivery, and share what works with the rest of the team.

What we are looking for

We're looking for someone who is curious, enjoys solving problems and is eager to learn and grow as a developer, while embodying our values (harriscomputer.com).

• A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience), or a strong portfolio of personal/academic projects. Some experience with software development, whether through a degree, internship, personal projects, or a junior role.

• Genuine enthusiasm for AI-assisted development and a real interest in tools like Claude; hands-on experience with them is desirable but not essential — a willingness to learn how we use them matters more. Experience with Delphi is a bonus but not required; exposure to Python/Django or modern web development is also welcome.

• An AI-first instinct: your natural starting point is to work with an agent and then apply your own judgement to what it gives you, rather than treating AI as a last resort or a shortcut to skip the thinking.

• Comfortable with the idea that “done” means proven, not just written — a mindset of testing, evidence, and asking questions rather than guessing.

• A willingness to learn new languages, tools, and processes quickly, and to work within a structured delivery process.

• Good problem-solving instincts and attention to detail.

• Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team, with good communication skills — including being able to set out clearly, in writing, what you want and why.
