PUSD Classification Salary Range: $19.46 - $24.91 per hour
Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $19.46 per hour (step 1) - $22.56 per hour (step 4)
Limited Term (Sub) Salary: $19.46 per hour (step 1)

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of limited-or non-English speaking students in a classroom, pull-out program, or other learning environment; assist in the preparation of instructional materials; administer a variety of assessments; collect student data and prepare reports; assist with parent meetings.
Assist certificated instructional personnel in developing and reinforcing curriculum, courses of study and lesson plans for students in the English Language Learner (ELL) program. E
Present instructional materials and academic instruction to individuals or small groups of students; assist students in reviewing homework assignments and test results. E
Communicate with students in English to provide direct instruction in oral language development, reading and writing; reinforce classroom instruction in support of other curricular areas and perform appropriate follow-up activities. E
Administer language assessments for identification and reclassification of ELL students; coordinate and conduct test assessment activities and timelines; collect and organize student language information from schools and districts to appropriately place in language programs; prepare and maintain student records and files; report and maintain files on student performance progress. E
Perform a variety of clerical duties such as recording grades, assembling materials, preparing charts, taking roll, maintaining records and files and typing and duplicating classroom materials. E
Operate audio-visual equipment, general office equipment and other instructional equipment; operate a computer to update student information as assigned. E
Utilize and assist in the preparation of instructional and visual aids including posters, books, displays, exhibits, games and manipulatives. E
Confer with ELL coordinators and teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs; attend meetings and in-service training related to methods, techniques and curriculum or student-related issues of the English Language Learner program as required. E
Provide information and explanation about program activities to parents, personnel and related individuals as required. E
Perform related duties as assigned.

- Passage of the PUSD examination for this classification and one year of experience working with children in an organized setting

KNOWLEDGE OF:

ABILITY TO:
Speak, rea,d and write English fluently using native or native-like pronunciation, grammar, etc.
Assist in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of limited-or-non English speaking students in a classroom, pull-out program or other learning environment.
Assist in the preparation of instructional materials.
Administer a variety of assessments.
Collect student data and prepare reports.
Assist with parent meetings.
Work independently to complete a variety of ELL program requirements, including assessments, documentation of records, and State and District reports.
Learn and implement methods and techniques used in creating plans and using materials to teach the English language to limited-or non-English speaking students.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with students and staff.
Demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward individuals from foreign cultures and ethnic communities.
Perform clerical duties such as filing, typing, duplicating, and maintaining records and files related to the instructional program.
Print and write legibly.
Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Read, interpret, and follow rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Operate instructional and office equipment.

In accordance with Personnel Commission Rules and Regulations of Classified Service # 70.200.1, new employees to Poway Unified School District will be placed at Step 1 of the official salary range designated for the position. Any variances in initial placement are addressed in, and shall be carried out in agreement with, this rule.
Effective July 1, 2020, all new employees to Poway Unified School District will be responsible for the fingerprint fee associated with new employee processing at the cost of $74 - cash/check ($76 for credit cards).
