Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska is a Partner of Choice for the Nebraska University System. Our Interns work a hybrid schedule and spend some days working on-site at our Omaha office located in Aksarben Village.  Therefore, you will need to live within commuting distance from Wednesday, May 26 – Friday, July 30, 2027.

Are you interested in how hospitals and healthcare organization reimbursement for patient care is determined and applied? This internship offers an opportunity to learn about this, while providing hands-on experience with healthcare financial data, claims management, reimbursement methodologies, and impact model reporting while developing data analytics and business intelligence skills. 

 

As a Healthcare Reimbursement Analytics Intern, you will work with health care reimbursement specialists to analyze claims reimbursement data, create reports, and identify trends affecting healthcare financial performance while gaining knowledge on the healthcare payer negotiation and reimbursement process. You'll gain exposure to claims processing, payer reimbursement, denial management, and operational analytics. 

What You'll Do:

  • Assist in analyzing healthcare claims with focus on utilization, types of service, denials, reimbursement trends, etc. 

  • Use SQL to source claims data 

  • Use Microsoft Excel to organize, validate, analyze and summarize large healthcare datasets. 

  • Support reporting and dashboard development to identify reimbursement savings opportunities and inefficiencies. 

  • Reimbursement for commercial, Affordable Care Act (ACA), and Medicare claims for both metro and rural Nebraska 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders on claims and reimbursement focus areas 

  • Document findings and assist with presenting recommendations to stakeholders 

  • Find opportunities to improve patient access to care

To be considered for this position you must have:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) Healthcare Administration, Business Analytics, Finance, Information Systems, Public Health, or a related field. 

The most qualified candidates will also possess some or all of the following:

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, and data analysis. 

  • Familiarity with SQL or willingness to learn 

  • Strong interest in healthcare finance, reimbursement, contracting, revenue cycle, or healthcare operations. 

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
