Lead technology across NZ’s largest farm business, turning data and digital into commercial performance on farm.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As Chief Technology and Digital Officer at Pāmu, you’ll lead digital, data, technology and transformation across a working commercial farming business, with a clear focus on lifting farm performance, improving decision making, strengthening sustainability, and helping our people make better use of practical tools on farm.

Pāmu is New Zealand’s largest and most diverse farming business. We have recently announced record profitability of $113 million, reflecting a performance reset across the business and the growing value of well-managed commercial farming, data-led decision making, automation, wearables, and practical technology on farm.

This is not a conventional corporate technology role. It sits at the intersection of commercial farming, data, sustainability and practical technology, giving you the opportunity to see ideas tested and applied in real operating environments, and to help shape tools that make a difference for farming teams.

Working alongside Pāmu’s Chief Executive, the Leadership Team, farming teams, industry partners and innovators to further advance the technology and data foundations that support commercial farming. With strong foundations already in place, you’ll lead a capable technology and transformation team into its next phase, building on the progress already made and continuing to grow the function’s impact across Pāmu and the wider farming and AgriTech sector.

The focus now is on continuing to advance Pāmu’s use of automation, artificial intelligence, data-led tools and connected technology; work that helps reduce duplication, improve decision making, strengthen cyber resilience, lift farm productivity, and create long-term value for Pāmu and the wider primary sector.

Pāmu also has a role beyond its own farm gate. Programmes such as LIFT show how Pāmu can use its scale, people and farming network to help develop capability, share practical learning, and support progress across the wider industry, while remaining firmly grounded in commercial farming performance.

For details about the national LIFT Programme, use this link: https://www.pamunewzealand.com/innovation/lift-livestock-innovation-farming-transformation.

If you want a role that combines commercial farming impact, operational complexity, national sector relevance, and the chance to support practical industry initiatives such as LIFT, this is a significant opportunity to lead work that is tangible, future-focused and connected to the realities of farming.

Ideally, you’ll be based in Wellington and able to spend time in our head office on Courtenay Place, with flexible working available.

The role will involve regular travel across Pāmu’s farming network and partner locations, giving you the opportunity to stay closely connected to the teams, places and work your technology leadership supports.

ABOUT YOU

You may already be operating at executive level, or you may be a senior Tier 2 leader ready for broader enterprise influence and accountability. You bring significant digital, data, technology, or transformation experience in a complex environment, and you know how to lead work that is practical, reliable, scalable, and closely connected to business performance.

Experience in agriculture, the primary sector, or Agri Tech would be an advantage, but it is not essential. What matters most is your ability to understand a complex operating environment, build trusted relationships, and connect technology and transformation to practical business outcomes that improve performance for people on farm.

You are a leader who builds trust, brings people with you, and creates clarity through change. You create space for others to contribute, make complex decisions easier to understand, and keep people connected to the purpose behind the work.

Your leadership style helps people feel clear, supported and able to do their best work. You encourage practical progress, build confidence through change, and create an inclusive team environment where capability, accountability and collaboration can grow.

You are someone who:

  • Builds trusted relationships across executive, operational, technology, farming, and external partner environments

  • Makes complex digital, data, and technology concepts clear, practical, and relevant for different audiences

  • Connects digital strategy, commercial thinking, operational needs, and customer or user experience

  • Has worked with, or had exposure to, Boards, executive teams, governance forums, strategic partners, or senior external stakeholders

  • Brings depth in areas such as data, technology platforms, cyber resilience, automation, AI, transformation, product partnerships, ERP or enterprise systems, and performance improvement

  • Leads teams in a way that builds confidence, inclusion, accountability, collaboration, and momentum

Most importantly, you are ready for a role with broad organisational influence and national sector relevance. You can move between senior leadership conversations, technology strategy, partner discussions, and on-farm realities, and help turn Pāmu’s commercial farming ambition into practical progress for the business and the wider industry.

We know great leaders do not always meet every single requirement before taking the next step. If this opportunity excites you and you can see how your experience could help Pāmu use digital, data and technology to lift commercial farming performance and contribute to the wider sector, we encourage you to apply.
