CREDIT AND LOAN DEPARTMENT INTERN POSITION SUMMARY


This position is responsible for working primarily in the agricultural credit and lending areas of the bank to gain experience and exposure to general bank operations.


The purpose of this internship is to offer students the opportunity to gain valuable business experience while learning in a hands-on environment about the everyday functions of a community bank organization. 


SCHEDULE

  • Summer 2027
  • Anticipated to be 28-35 hours per week between the hours of 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday


CREDIT AND LOAN DEPARTMENT INTERN ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Learn the application process for varying loan types.
  2. Observe the underwriting process for varying loan types.
  3. Analyze financial information, such as statements, management accounts, and cash flow statements.
  4. Maintain loan files for proper documentation and closure in accordance with bank policy.
  5. Provide a high level of customer service and function as a liaison between the client and the bank operations area to ensure all client needs are met. 
  6. Learn the process for making recommendations on the inherent risks of extending credit to each client.
  7. Understand the credit application process required to approve, deny, or recommend credit action for loan applications within an acceptable customer service and regulatory timeframe.
  8. Observe and understand the process for attracting, establishing, and maintaining new banking relationships.
  9. Participate in loan committee and credit analyst meetings as needed
  10. Provide support to the lending team as part of the internship's rotation of duties. This will include a variety of items (review of financial documents, spreadsheets, and supporting collateral, to name a few).  
  11. Various tasks in functional areas of the bank, depending on client and business needs.
  12. Observe and participate in bank events to build business relationships.

Requirements

CREDIT AND LOAN DEPARTMENT INTERN ROLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Open to applicants completing Sophomore or Junior year of college

Experience

  • Customer service or banking experience encouraged
  • Enrolled in course of study related to Agriculture or Finance preferred

  • Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions, understand procedures, and speak clearly to customers and employees
  • Understands computer and other equipment capabilities and limitations
  • Ability to comprehend and retain regulatory and compliance policies and procedures
  • Exhibit patience; remain personable and provide a positive experience
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and shifts
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
