Sr. Reinsurance Accountant
About the Opportunity
A leading insurance carrier is seeking a Senior Reinsurance Analyst to support reinsurance accounting, reporting, analysis, and financial close activities within a property & casualty insurance environment. This role will work closely with reinsurers, brokers, auditors, and internal stakeholders while helping ensure accurate reporting and compliance with GAAP, statutory requirements, and internal controls.
This is a 100% in-office position in either Chicago, IL, New York, NY, Los Angeles, CA, Omaha, Nebraska, or Richmond, VA .
Key Responsibilities
- Perform reinsurance accounting, analysis, reconciliations, and journal entries supporting monthly, quarterly, and year-end close.
- Prepare and analyze reinsurance reports, financial schedules, and ad hoc reporting for management.
- Coordinate reporting and account activity with reinsurers and intermediaries.
- Serve as a key contact for claim reporting, coverage questions, and collections.
- Support statutory and supplemental financial reporting requirements.
- Partner with Reinsurance Operations and other internal teams on reinsurance-related accounting matters.
- Work with internal and external auditors and support SOX compliance.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, and efficiency within reinsurance accounting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of accounting experience, with reinsurance accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Property & casualty insurance experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of reinsurance account processing and accounting.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills; experience with accounting or reinsurance systems is a plus.
- Experience with reinsurance treaties preferred.
- CPA is a plus.

- $115K – $140K base salary
