Responsibilities
This position is primarily required to perform technical procedures involved in the operation of GTP Cellular Therapy Laboratory. These procedures include but are not limited to red blood cell and volume reduction and cryopreservation of viable cells for transplantation. Additional duties may include thawing tissue for infusions and providing donor and product testing services. Additionally, the technologist may perform routine hematology laboratory duties, including staining slides and CBC and differential counts.
- Processes and cryopreserves hematopoietic progenitor cell (HPC), parathyroid tissue and other cellular therapy products as developed in the laboratory for transplantation. Cryopreservation of starting material for bio-pharma clinical trials and commercial products for gene therapies.
- Complies with all policies, practices, procedures, SOPs and other applicable regulations, requirements and standards.
- Conducts routine cell enumeration as required by hematology lab.
- Performs daily quality control on all equipment prior to use and reports any malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff, and conducts routine preventative maintenance as required.
- Maintains patient records and products inventory.
- Performs moderately complex laboratory tests which includes proficiency tests and preparation of product and patient samples for testing in other laboratories.
- Documents deviations and occurrences and notifies appropriate staff.
- Prepares inventory and donor qualification reports.

Qualifications
Education:
- Education and training sufficient to qualify for licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist prior to 2009 as specified in NYS-ED Regulation 79 -13.4
Experience:
- Relevant experience in a clinical laboratory position
Licenses:
- Current active NY State License as a Clinical Lab Technologist, or
- Current active NY State issued Restricted License in Cellular Therapy
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of processing, purging, cryopreserving, thawing and preparing cellular therapy products for infusion/transplantation.
- Basic knowledge of FDA and NYSDOH regulations and FACT standards.
- Expert knowledge in the aseptic technique.
- Knowledge of basic laboratory supplies and equipment.
- Working knowledge of computerized systems.
- Basic understanding of quality control procedures.
- Knowledge of a variety of software applications (Microsoft Office).
Skills & Abilities:
- Attention to details in all work processes.
- Good interpersonal skills to handle a variety of moderate issues and situations. Position requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy in dealing with a variety of staff up to and including the department management.

For applicants who will perform this position in New York City or Westchester County, the proposed hiring rate is $46.67p/hr. to $60.00p/hr. For applicants who will perform this position outside of New York City or Westchester County, salary will reflect local market rates and be commensurate with the applicant’s skills, job-related knowledge, and experience.
