This role is responsible for the financial management and commercial governance of ScottishPower Renewables land assets, rental agreements and associated third-party payments. This role is critical in ensuring accurate financial management, compliance with commercial contractual obligations, and maintaining strong relationships with landowners across SP Renewables which supports the long-term SP Renewables strategy in relation to Repowering opportunities. As a key member of the Land & Estates Leadership team, the Land & Estates Financial Manager will take a leading role in the overall direction and performance of the department and support the Head of Estates Management in delivering the department’s objectives and managing changes in scope, processes and requirements as the department evolves. 

 

 

What you’ll be doing 

 

This role has accountability for the end-to-end management of a combined annual budget of approximately £55m, covering external service costs, land rental payments and business rates. You will lead the development of the Land Rental strategy and long-term financial outlook, producing accurate forecasts and three-year budget plans based on a detailed understanding of operational activity, land agreements and contractual commitments. You will provide clear and insightful reporting to senior stakeholders, highlighting key risks, opportunities and sensitivities to support informed business decision-making. 

Working closely with colleagues across Land and Estates, you will drive the continuous improvement of financial processes, ensuring robust governance across activities including tax returns, Renewables Obligation Certificates, financial statements and payments to landowners. You will also provide expert financial input into the negotiation and establishment of new lease agreements, advising on appropriate commercial structures and financial parameters that support business objectives. 

The role also has operational accountability for SAP RE land payments, ensuring accurate validation, approval and compliance with contractual obligations while maintaining high standards of data quality. In addition, you will lead strategic engagement with landowners, building strong and sustainable relationships that support SPR's Repowering Strategy. Acting as the escalation point for complex landowner queries and complaints, you will work collaboratively to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes and preserve long-term partnerships. 

 

 

What you’ll bring 

 

  • Qualified accountant with professional accounting qualification (e.g. ACCA, CIMA, CA). 

  • Degree in finance, accounting or a related field 

  • Experience of lease agreements and managing relationships with landowners, land agents and other third parties. 

  • Experience managing significant budgets and financial structures, ideally within property, land or estate sectors.  

  • Proficient use and experience in financial systems and excel (SAP RE preferable) 

  • Strong leadership, management, influencing and interpersonal skills. 

  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and within a highly pressured environment. 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
