Description
THOR Solutions is actively seeking a highly motivated Junior-Level Naval Architect to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG)’s Ship Design Team in Washington, D.C. An ideal candidate will have prior knowledge or experience with U.S. Federal or commercial shipbuilding programs, standards, and regulations.
Typical Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support and documentation for ship feasibility, concept, preliminary and contract design, integration, stability analysis, hydrodynamic and seakeeping properties.
- Evaluate systems and equipment, develop and analyze requirements, perform studies and documentation relating to hull form, stability, weights, structures, and design.
- Develop system documentation and ship specifications for surface assets and boats, perform structural analysis and design using ISO and class society standards.
Location: Full time onsite at USCG Headquarters in Washington, DC. May be limited "local remote" flexibility with customer approval.
Travel: Up to 10% travel is anticipated for ship checks.
Typical Pay Range: The anticipated pay range for this position in the identified location(s) is $60,000 – $90,000. Actual compensation offered will be based upon individual factors including education, qualifications, and experience.
Typical Physical Activity: Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve: repetitive motion. Periodic visits to waterfront/shipboard environments. May involve: traversing shipboard environments (e.g., confined spaces, ladders, hatches) or vision.
Eligibility for a SECRET Security Clearance is Required: This position requires eligibility for a Secret security clearance, to be obtained after hire. Only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance; therefore, only current U.S. citizens will be considered for this position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture or another relevant technical, engineering, or a marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Zero (0) to two (2) years of progressive experience in Naval Architecture.
- An ideal candidate will have some prior knowledge or experience with:
- U.S. Federal or commercial ship or boat building acquisition programs.
- DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs.
- Computer applications relating to naval architecture and ship design.
- Corrosion principles of metals for surface assets and boats.
- USN, USCG, IACS and/or commercial ship design rules and regulations.
- Proficient with common productivity software.
- Strong communications skills.
