Job Summary:
The Certified Surgical Technologist prepares and provides sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment during surgical procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.
- Pulls preference cards from the electronic system for each case when necessary.
- Prepares and provides sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment during a surgical procedure.
- Maintains the sterile environment/technique.
- Maintains control over all instruments during surgery.
- Assures proper functioning of all equipment before use intraoperatively.
- Verifies with the circulator that all required instruments, supplies, and implants are accounted for before the start of surgery.
- Knows and follows all Policies and Procedures of the department.
- Functions within the scope of Certification.
- Follows OR policies & procedures for “turnover” between cases, while maintaining efficiency.
- Follows Universal Precautions, wears personal protection equipment, works safely, and treats instruments and equipment with respect.
- Complies with surgical site verification and time-out policies.
- Reviews the planned procedure.
- Verifies all equipment is functioning and inspects for safety before use.
- Completes all counts accurately.
- Verifies the sterility of all items before introduction onto the sterile field.
- Monitors the sterile field for any breaks or potential breaks in sterility.
- Ortho Practice - Will work with surgical patients who have had joint replacements and abide by the standards of care set forth by St. Mary's Hip & Knee Replacement Interdisciplinary Team.
- Maintains effective communication with peers, surgeons, and management.
- Accepts assignment changes, Open Calls, and unit projects.
- As part of our commitment to clinical education and workforce development, all staff are expected to actively support and participate in the education and mentorship of students assigned to the unit.
- Maintains required licenses, certifications, and competencies, and completes annual compliance courses on time.
- Other duties as consistent with this role.

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Certification with the Association of Surgical Technologists or NCCT Surgical Tech
- Basic Life Support certification required.

Comp Range:
$27.50 - $37.88Rate of pay displayed reflects the beginning of the pay scale. At the time of an offer, determination of your offer will reflect your skills and experience as it relates to the position.
