About This Opportunity  

 

The University of Queensland’s Institute of Modern Languages is seeking expressions of interest from casual academics to be engaged on a casual basis. 

Casual Academics make a rich and important contribution to the Institutes language teaching and community engagement endeavours through the provision of a range of academically focused services and activities. Casual Academic responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):  

  • Teaching  

  • Personalised Tutoring  

  • Development of teaching materials 

  • Exam Marking 

  • Preparation of lesson plans 

  • Report writing and other associated duties.

These are casual academic appointments. As such, there is no firm advance commitment to ongoing or indefinite work. The casual rate will vary depending on the type of work completed. Please view our various casual academic pay scales.

Eligibility

Qualifications 

A Bachelor level degree or other qualification in teaching, education, TESOL, languages or linguistics. Or a certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent. 

Knowledge and Skills 

Native speaker or native-like proficiency in the target language. 

Ability to develop programs for specific language learning purposes. 

Ability to evaluate & assess student progress. 

Knowledge of current practices in language teaching methodology. 

Experience 

General or Language teaching experience. 

Personal qualities 

Good communication and interpersonal skills. 

Ability to adopt a flexible approach to teaching style in response to student needs 

You must have work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.
