Description
Beloit Health System at Beloit Memorial Hospital is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Cardiac Step-Down/Intermediate Care Unit. The Cardiac Step-Down RN provides specialized nursing care to patients transitioning from intensive cardiac care who require close monitoring and advanced clinical assessment. This role collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while promoting positive clinical outcomes.

The Cardiac Step-Down Registered Nurse plans, coordinates, supervises, and provides comprehensive nursing care to patients across the lifespan within the wellness-illness continuum. This role delivers high-quality, cost-effective care while utilizing advanced clinical judgment to monitor and respond to changes in patient conditions. Additional specialized training enables the Cardiac Step-Down Registered Nurse to accurately interpret cardiac telemetry, recognize abnormalities, and respond promptly to cardiac events.
The Cardiac Step-Down Registered Nurse will:
- Assess the physical, psychological, and social needs of patients and their families.
- Provide nursing care for patients with complex medical conditions, including:
- Cardiac rhythm disturbances
- Cerebrovascular accidents (CVA/stroke)
- Peritoneal dialysis
- Multiple comorbidities
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
- Monitor and assess patient responses to nursing interventions and medical therapies.
- Provide education and support to patients and families.
- Adhere to infection prevention and control practices, including bloodborne pathogen and isolation precautions.
- Participate actively in quality improvement initiatives.
- Perform unit-specific responsibilities and maintain competency requirements.
- Complete accurate and timely documentation according to organizational policies.
- Prioritize and coordinate care based on patient acuity and clinical needs.
- Interpret cardiac telemetry rhythms at least every four hours and respond appropriately to changes in patient status.
- Promote patient safety while administering medications, transferring patients, and preventing falls, injuries, and exposure to hazards.
- Demonstrate proficiency with electronic health records and other computer applications required for the role.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
- ADN, Diploma, BSN, or MSN degree acceptable.
- State of Wisconsin nursing licensure, compact license or temporary permit required. (If a compact license, application for a State of Wisconsin nursing license must be initiated in no more than 30 days from start date).
- Must be CPR/BLS certified within 3 months of hire.
- Must be ACLS certified within 6 months of hire
- ASLS and NIHSS stroke certified within 1 year of hire.
- Cardiac Telemetry course completion within 6 months of hire.
- Peritoneal Dialysis training within 1 year.
