The Pool Attendant is responsible for the safe, clean, organized and guest-ready operation of designated pool areas, cabanas and surrounding guest spaces at NCL Private Island in the Bahamas. The position is highly guest-facing and focuses on hospitality, presentation, cleanliness, service, guest assistance and the day-to-day operation of the pool environment.
To consistently exceed guest expectations and provide the highest levels of product and service, additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Essential Functions
- Maintain assigned pool decks, guest pool areas, cabanas, furniture, walkways and surrounding areas in a clean, orderly and guest-ready condition throughout operating hours.
- Prepare pool areas before opening, including arranging loungers, umbrellas, cabana furniture and other guest amenities in accordance with established standards.
- Maintain the presentation and cleanliness of cabanas, including routine cleaning, replenishment of approved guest amenities and reporting of damaged or missing items.
- Provide friendly, professional and proactive guest service, responding to guest questions, requests and reasonable needs within the scope of the position.
- Assist guests with locating available seating, cabanas, amenities and designated pool facilities while maintaining an organized and welcoming environment.
- Monitor assigned pool areas for general safety, housekeeping, guest comfort and operational conditions; immediately report hazards, damaged equipment, unsafe behavior or maintenance concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Maintain clear and safe guest pathways and ensure poolside furniture and amenities do not obstruct emergency access or designated walkways.
- Perform routine cleaning duties including removal of trash, debris, towels and other items from assigned guest areas and transfer waste to designated collection points.
- Collect, organize and replenish pool towels and other approved pool-area supplies in accordance with operating procedures.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures for pool areas and cabanas, including securing and storing equipment and amenities as directed.
- Support guest activities and pool-area operations as directed by the Assistant Front of House Manager while maintaining a high standard of hospitality.
- Work closely with Island AB and Island Junior Deck Seafarer personnel when pool-system, water-quality or technical issues are identified; promptly communicate concerns and do not perform unauthorized technical or chemical work.
- Immediately report suspected water-quality concerns, unusual water appearance, equipment alarms, leaks, damaged pool fittings or other technical issues to the designated Island AB / Island Junior Deck Seafarer personnel and supervisor.
- Support emergency response procedures, including assisting with crowd control, guest direction and notification of the appropriate emergency personnel when required.
- Follow all company safety, environmental, sanitation, guest-service and emergency procedures applicable to the position.
- Maintain professional communication and effective working relationships with Front of House, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Security and other island departments.
- Maintain accurate records or checklists when assigned, including pool-area inspections, cabana readiness, supplies and reported deficiencies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
- Must be familiar with applicable Safety and Environmental Protection policies and carry out procedures appropriate to the position.
- Always initiate and maintain effective employee relations.
ROLE BOUNDARIES – POOL SYSTEM & WATER QUALITY
- Pool Attendants are responsible for the guest-facing operation, cleanliness, presentation and service of pool areas and cabanas.
- Pool Attendants shall not operate, adjust, repair or maintain pool pumps, filtration systems, circulation equipment, chemical dosing systems, controllers or other pool mechanical/electrical equipment unless specifically authorized and trained for a separate duty.
- Pool Attendants shall not conduct water-quality testing, chemical dosing or chemical adjustments as part of this position.
- Island AB and Island Junior Deck Seafarer personnel retain responsibility for the actual pool system, pool equipment, water-quality management and associated technical maintenance, in addition to their assigned pool-related duties.
- Any pool-system or water-quality concern identified by a Pool Attendant must be reported immediately to the appropriate Island AB or Island Junior Deck Seafarer personnel and the Assistant Front of House Manager.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in hospitality, pool operations, recreation, guest services, housekeeping or a similar guest-facing environment is preferred.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate professionally with guests and coworkers.
- Ability to work in a high-volume, multicultural hospitality environment and adjust to changes in schedules, assignments and operational priorities.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and established safety and operating procedures.
- Basic computer skills and ability to complete checklists or operational records as required.
- Ability to work outdoors in a tropical environment for extended periods.
Education
- High school diploma or foreign equivalent is preferred.
- Current CPR / First Aid certification is preferred or must be obtained as required by the Company.
- Any position-specific safety, guest-service or pool-rescue training required by the Company must be completed.
