Position Overview

The Chemist Apprentice will support laboratory operations by assisting with product testing, quality control activities, chemical synthesis, and documentation while developing technical skills through structured training and hands-on experience. This role provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in a laboratory environment while learning safe work practices, analytical techniques, quality standards, and manufacturing processes. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced chemists and laboratory personnel to contribute to product quality, continuous improvement, and business objectives.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support the production of bulk cyanoacrylate products in accordance with established standards, procedures, and safety guidelines.

  • Complete laboratory and batch documentation accurately and in real time.

  • Assist with the review and compilation of batch documentation.

  • Perform routine analytical testing, including pH, titration, and viscosity testing.

  • Support quality control activities, including shelf-life studies and batch release testing.

  • Adhere to eQMS, cGMP, laboratory procedures, and safety requirements.

  • Monitor and report test results and laboratory activities to the Chemist or designated supervisor.

  • Coordinate and prioritize laboratory tasks to support team objectives and deadlines.

  • Assist with environmental monitoring activities within cleanroom areas as required.

  • Maintain laboratory equipment, chemicals, and supplies while ensuring materials are correctly stored and labelled.

  • Support investigations into quality or process issues and assist with root cause analysis activities.

  • Participate in research, development, and chemical synthesis projects as required.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support the development of laboratory procedures.

  • Support the training of new team members where appropriate.

Minimum Requirements

  • Leaving Certificate or equivalent secondary education with a Science subject.

  • Strong interest in Chemistry, Laboratory Science, or Chemical Manufacturing.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.

  • Good organizational and time-management skills.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

  • Willingness to learn new techniques and participate in cross-training across different areas of the business.

Preferred Requirements

  • Previous laboratory, manufacturing, or industrial work experience.

  • Experience using laboratory testing equipment.

  • Basic knowledge of analytical chemistry techniques.

  • Exposure to gas chromatography and/or moisture titration.

  • Familiarity with quality systems, GMP, or laboratory documentation practices.

  • Experience gained through school projects, internships, work placements, or technical coursework related to chemistry or laboratory sciences.
