Description
Company Overview
Griffon Aerospace is a trusted aerospace solutions provider based in Madison, Alabama, specializing in the design, development, and operation of advanced unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). Since 1995, we have delivered over 12,000 unmanned air vehicles to the Department of Defense, allied nations, and commercial customers. We pride ourselves on being a lion-hearted partner, designing, building, and flying the most capable and intelligent aerial systems that give our servicemen an unfair advantage wherever they fly.
Position Overview:
The Senior Systems Engineer will lead system architecture, requirements, and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) activities for complex aerospace and defense programs. This role will establish and mature authoritative SysML models in Cameo Systems Modeler/MagicDraw, guide multidisciplinary engineering decisions, and ensure traceability from mission needs through architecture, interfaces, implementation, and verification. The ideal candidate brings deep systems engineering judgment, strong technical leadership, and experience delivering integrated, safety-critical systems in a fast-paced program environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead development and maintenance of authoritative SysML models in Cameo Systems Modeler/MagicDraw, including mission context, requirements, behavior, structure, interfaces, allocations, and verification relationships.
- Define and communicate system concepts, functional and physical architectures, operational scenarios, interface strategies, and technical baselines across multiple configurations or program increments.
- Lead stakeholder-needs analysis and the decomposition, allocation, and management of system requirements, ensuring complete bidirectional traceability and technically sound acceptance criteria.
- Chair or facilitate cross-functional architecture, interface, trade-study, and technical-risk decisions involving software, hardware, integration, test, safety, cybersecurity, and program stakeholders.
- Establish model structure, conventions, validation rules, libraries, configuration controls, and review practices that improve model quality, reuse, collaboration, and baseline integrity.
- Lead technical readiness for SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, customer reviews, and major integration events; present architecture and analysis results to technical and program leadership.
- Develop and oversee system verification strategies, methods, plans, and evidence, and ensure requirements are demonstrably satisfied through analysis, inspection, demonstration, or test.
- Mentor systems engineers, coordinate MBSE work across teams, and drive measurable improvement in systems engineering methods, model maturity, and technical decision quality.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 8+ years of systems engineering, architecture, requirements, integration, verification, or related engineering experience supporting complex systems.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience developing and governing system models in Cameo Systems Modeler/MagicDraw or a closely related MBSE tool.
- Advanced working knowledge of SysML and demonstrated ability to build coherent, reviewable models that connect mission needs, requirements, behavior, structure, interfaces, and verification.
- Demonstrated experience leading system architecture, requirements decomposition, interface management, trade studies, technical reviews, and lifecycle baselines.
- Ability to identify cross-domain technical risks, resolve ambiguity, balance competing constraints, and provide clear, evidence-based recommendations to decision-makers.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, facilitation, technical writing, presentation, and customer-facing communication skills.
- Must have or be able to obtain a U.S. SECRET security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Systems Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Experience leading architecture or MBSE activities for UAS, aerospace, defense, avionics, mission systems, autonomy, or other safety-critical systems.
- Deep experience with Cameo Teamwork Cloud/CATIA No Magic collaboration, model governance, custom profiles, model libraries, validation suites, report generation, or automation.
- Knowledge of ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 and 29148, DoDAF/UAF, MIL-STD-882, digital engineering strategy, and government acquisition or contract-deliverable environments.
- INCOSE CSEP/ESEP, OMG OCSMP certification, or comparable advanced systems engineering or MBSE credentials.
