Position: Biomed Tech III / BMET III
Location: Sherman hospital; Elgin, IL.
Full Time; Day Shift
Typical hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm. Somewhat negotiable.

Major Responsibilities:
- CORRECTIVE MAINTENANCE
- PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE, SAFETY and QUALITY ASSURANCE TESTING
- TECHNICAL PROJECTS AND OTHER DUTIES
- EQUIPMENT MANAGEMENT
Education/Experience Required:
- Understanding of human anatomy and physiology with a basic understanding of Medical Terminology.
- Associate’s degree in electronics, computer or biomedical equipment technology with 5 years equivalent healthcare experience, OR 7 years comparable hospital experience working on multiple medical equipment and systems with demonstrated expertise in scheduled and corrective maintenance.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Excellent communication skills to discuss equipment function with both patients and equipment users (clinical staff).
- Effective computer skills to: 1.analyze work efforts 2.observe equipment trends 3.run basic reports 4.use Microsoft® products 5.perform research on the web
- Ability to specify and use electronic test equipment and phantoms to troubleshoot and repair.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills
- Excellent soldering technique
- Manual dexterity to effectively use hand tools.
- Must be able to read and interpret technical documentation.
- Proficient at scheduled and corrective maintenance on a wide variety of medical devices with advanced skills on one or more specific devices.
- Valid Driver’s License with the state of Illinois.
- CompTIA A+ certification preferred.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Potential high stress situations due to repair demands in minimal time frames, change initiatives, and/or scheduling challenges. •May be required to work with extremely high voltage and with complex electronic circuitry. •May be required to work in a confined space or on a ladder. •Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids, noxious fumes and air borne contaminants. •Must be able to assume responsibility for on-call pager response and to report to work as assigned at multiple Advocate facilities. •May require the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. •Must be able to distinguish different colors. •May be required to mentor others.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
