Director of WIC Summary

Plans, manages, and oversees the ongoing operations of Butler County WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children). Provides departmental leadership and operational direction to support access to high-quality WIC services for eligible Butler County residents. Serves as the primary operational liaison between the Ohio WIC Agency and Primary Health Solutions. Implements program requirements, monitors performance, and maintains programmatic and financial compliance with applicable statutory, regulatory, and grantor requirements.

A Day in the Life

· Oversees WIC personnel activities including hiring, orientation, training, scheduling, performance evaluation, corrective action, and other employee matters in consultation with organizational leadership and in accordance with policy.

· Coordinates training and onboarding of new personnel according to established policies and procedures.

· Supports retention and development of high-performing staff through regular feedback, coaching, supervision, and professional development.

· Establishes departmental workflows, work standards, and performance expectations to support efficient and productive operations.

· Manages implementation and administration of the WIC grant, budget, nutrition education, breastfeeding, outreach, and related services in accordance with WIC guidelines and approved organizational direction.

· Monitors WIC caseload and participation throughout Butler County and implements operational strategies to support approved caseload goals.

· Builds collaborative relationships with health, social service, and community partners to support program access and continuity of services.

· Ensures departmental practices align with State WIC policies and procedures and applicable Ohio dietetics licensure requirements.

· Monitors compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and grant requirements and escalates significant concerns to organizational leadership.

· Coordinates and prepares grant requests, amendments, programmatic reports, grant drawdown documentation, and other required materials.

· Oversees administrative and clinical workflows to support efficient, consistent, and effective WIC operations.

· Manages departmental financial operations, including budget development, monitoring, financial reporting, and required record keeping.

· Ensures clients receive services in a safe, respectful, and supportive environment and provides WIC program coverage and operational support as needed.

· Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Provides direct supervision and operational leadership for WIC Program staff. Responsibilities include interviewing and selection; training and developing employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; recognizing strong performance; addressing employee concerns; administering corrective action as appropriate; and resolving operational problems.

Requirements

Education/Experience

Master's Degree in Nutrition/Dietetics Management or similar degree. American Dietetic Association/Commission on Dietetic Registration Registered Dietitian with Ohio License. Progressive WIC Program experience with at least three (3) years as a Lead Nutritionist. Prior WIC Program Director or comparable management experience preferred. Experience in public health/community dietetics with emphasis on prenatal and pediatric nutrition. Experience in clinical dietetics desirable.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, policies, procedures, and program guidance. Ability to prepare clear reports and professional correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with employees, clients, community partners, and organizational leadership.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to identify operational issues, evaluate available information, apply policies and program requirements, and implement practical solutions. Ability to exercise sound judgment and escalate significant program, compliance, personnel, or financial concerns when appropriate.

Computer Skills

Intermediate skills in Microsoft products, current practice management systems, electronic medical records, and other systems necessary to oversee WIC program operations and reporting.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Registered Dietitian with Ohio license.

Other Applicable Requirements

Demonstrated knowledge of WIC operations, public health nutrition, grant requirements, staff supervision, and community-based service delivery. Ability to work effectively with patients from lower socio-economic sectors of the community. Ability to speak Spanish desirable.
