The Utilities Engineer monitors utility-system conditions, ensures optimal and efficient performance, guides investment priorities, leads change, implements enhancements, and is responsible for the operational excellence of plant utilities across Monument Chemical's Gulf Coast sites.Systems within the role's scope include fresh-water makeup and treatment, cooling water, steam generation and distribution, condensate collection and return, wastewater, nitrogen, fuel gas, and flare systems.

Essential Functions
  • Identify and correct utility inefficiencies, limitations and make recommendations for utility expansion, if needed.
  • Develops and maintains utility balances
  • Supports and provides input to Capital projects
  • Provide guidelines for troubleshooting or utilities savings opportunities.
  • Identify and correct wastewater inefficiencies and limitations that could affect future growth.
  • Identify any significant utility and process equipment/piping/tankage etc. that are nearing the end of their life cycle and should be considered for repairs/replacement/ upgrades. Multiyear capital planning.
  • Strong knowledge of systems such as:
  • o Various water treatment processes, including filtration, Ion-Exchange,
  • o Steam boilers, De-Aerators, Steam Let downs and Distribution
  • o Condensate return
  • Identify any systems that are in place that do not follow RAGAGEP and make recommendations to repair/replace/upgrade as needed.
  • Reviews work of contracted engineering personnel involved in the design and review of utilities and related infrastructure and prepares cost estimates for projects.
  • Review utilities contracts for long term agreements.
  • Participates as a member of the organizational leadership team; researches, recommends and prepares policies, plans, concepts and future expansion.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned, including but not limited to continuously growing in alignment with the Company’s core values, competencies, and skills.

Education Qualifications
  • Required Bachelor's Degree Chemical Engineering from an accredited university

Experience Qualifications
  • Required 2-5 years of relevant experience
  • Preferred 10+ years of relevant experience

Skills and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of utility design, construction, and contract administration procedures.
  • Knowledge of effective engineering specifications and applicable state and federal utility regulations.
  • Ability to size lines, pumps, control valves, and pressure safety valves (PSVs), and evaluate pressure vessels and heat exchangers.
  • Competence in basic chemical-engineering calculations and heat-and-material balances.
  • Proficiency with widely used process-simulation software, such as Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, Pro/II, or ChemCAD.
  • Basic knowledge of distillation columns, reboilers, condensers, process control, loading and unloading facilities, and tank design.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Visio, Bluebeam, and process-simulation applications.
  • Knowledge of process-control and safety instrumented system (SIS) design.
  • Familiarity with process-control infrastructure, field devices, communication systems, and junction boxes.
  • Knowledge of industrial flow- and level-measurement technologies.
  • Familiarity with applicable standards and codes, including API, ASME, NFPA, and OSHA requirements.
  • Knowledge of tank operations, including filling, emptying, pressure control, level control, and overfill protection.
  • Knowledge of truck and rail loading and unloading operations, including protective systems.
  • Strong interest in digital transformation.
  • Proficiency with SharePoint and collaborative tools, including SharePoint Lists, Power BI, Microsoft Planner, and Visio.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands
  • Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long periods of time, up to 12 hours per day.
  • Sitting. Working from a seated position for up to 12 hours per day.
  • Climbing. Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, ramps and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms one to two times per day.
  • Balancing. Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing or crouching on narrow or slippery surfaces.
  • Stooping. Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
  • Kneeling. Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
  • Crouching. Bending the body downward and forward by bending legs and spine.
  • Reaching. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Pushing. Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force, exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force consistently to move objects forward, downward or outward.
  • Pulling. Using upper extremities to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force consistently to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Lifting. Raising objects up to 25 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 15 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds consistently from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position.
  • Grasping. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Possible subject to environmental conditions. Activities could occur inside and outside.
  • Subject to extreme heat. Temperatures above 100 for periods of more than one hour.
  • Subject to vibration. Exposure to movements of the extremities or whole body. Operate/drive utility vehicle.
  • Subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE for tasks as required. FRC uniform, hard hat, safety toe work boots, safety glasses, gloves etc.
