Description

Performs a variety of tasks in the operations for the Utilities Department warehouse, ensuring sufficient supply of inventory for efficient operation of the utility systems (drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater).

  • Orders, stocks, assigns stock numbers, distributes, and performs an annual physical inventory count of all items necessary for the operation of the Utility Systems;
  • Establishes policies and procedures for inventory control;
  • Maintains and controls stock levels of warehouse materials by performing physical count of all received items to verify accuracy of count, invoice, and purchase order;
  • Determines availability of non-stock items, price and estimated delivery time from vendors, forwards information to Purchasing for selection of vendor and places order for item;
  • Inspects warehouse, storeroom, and stock yard for cleanliness and orderliness;
  • Processes daily use of inventory items for restocking purposes;
  • Requests, receives and allocates inventory items / materials to be ordered through computerized Purchasing/Inventory program;
  • Manages scheduling of deliveries to the warehouse, or to individual job sites, picks up non-stock items from vendors who do not provide delivery services and delivers items to job site, as needed;
  • Coordinate with foremen to order and receive materials for special in-house projects;
  • Manages fixed assets: tracking, numbering, and documentation of items with a value between $1,000 and $5,000;
  • Coordinates with Engineering Division to implement the City’s Materials Agreement process;
  • Operates forklift for delivery, loading, & moving of materials;
  • Assists in the research, recommendation, and preparation of quotes for special equipment;
  • Reviews project material submittals.
  • Attend training as needed to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements, as well as maintain required certifications; 
  • Assist in emergency operations as needed;
  • Mentor new employees;
  • Additional duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge of available sources and vendors for supplies, equipment and materials; 
  • Knowledge of the principles/techniques of inventory management and computerized inventory systems; 
  • Knowledge of basic accounting practices and basic arithmetic calculations; 
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of tools, parts, materials, and supplies used in the maintenance of utility systems; 
  • Ability to determine the quality of goods against prescribed specifications; 
  • Ability to keep stores activity, inventory records and to prepare periodic reports; 
  • Skill in the use of a variety of office machines including calculator, computer terminal, copier, and telephone; 
  • Skill in the application of appropriate lifting and transporting techniques; 
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other city department personnel, and outside vendors.
  • Completion of high school or GED with two years full-time experience in water/sewer systems;
  • Considerable experience in warehousing, stores, and stores records activities;
  • Must obtain forklift operation certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
