Buyer III
Ontic is a leading global aerospace Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) trusted by the world’s aviation leaders. Ontic’s Creedmoor, NC, site is home to a number of specialist companies within the Ontic Group, including Metro Merlin, Twin Commander, and Firstmark. With over 1,500 employees across four time zones and seven sites, we have more than doubled in size since 2019 and are continuing to grow at pace.
Our team is looking for a Buyer III to join them. You will report to the Procurement Manager and will have an onsite work structure in Creedmoor, North Carolina.
As a Buyer III, you will manage the end-to-end procurement process to ensure materials, equipment, and services are acquired at the best value while meeting quality, delivery, inventory, and compliance requirements. You will play a key role in supplier management, contract negotiation, cost reduction, and cross-functional collaboration to support business and customer objectives.
To be considered for the Buyer III opening, here’s what you’ll need to bring with you:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in a highly regulated industry
- Experience in an aerospace environment preferred
- Government/DoD subcontract or program experience, including familiarity with FAR/DFAR compliance, preferred
- Strong understanding of manufacturing methods, operations, planning, logistics, quality, and contractual terms and conditions
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, customer contracts, and related technical documentation
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems, including hands-on understanding of demand and supply requirements
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Demonstrated experience negotiating supplier pricing, lead times, terms, and conditions
- Experience developing and maintaining effective supplier relationships
- Experience identifying, creating, and implementing process improvements
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
As a Buyer III, you will:
- Quote and procure a variety of mechanical, electronic, and electro-mechanical components and subassemblies.
- Interpret MRP requirements to determine delivery schedules while maintaining responsible inventory levels and supporting cash flow objectives.
- Read and interpret drawings, specifications, customer contracts, and other technical documentation to ensure purchasing requirements are accurately captured and flowed down to suppliers.
- Review, analyze, create, and manage purchase orders, subcontract agreements, and applicable terms and conditions.
- Monitor and manage purchase order and subcontract performance to achieve quality, cost, and delivery objectives and exceed customer expectations.
- Participate in competitive bidding activities and analyze supplier quotations to drive favorable pricing and positive purchase price variance (PPV).
- Develop and execute supplier negotiation strategies to meet or exceed established cost, pricing, and lead-time objectives.
- Expedite materials, assignments, and projects as needed to drive results throughout the supply chain and mitigate delivery risk.
- Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships while partnering cross-functionally with Operations, Planning, Quality, Engineering, and other key stakeholders.
- Support the onboarding and qualification of new suppliers and help maintain suppliers’ approved status.
- Identify opportunities to improve purchasing processes, supplier performance, cost, quality, and delivery.
- Operate within established purchasing authority limits and applicable company policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
