What you’ll be doing...

We are looking for a visionary, tech-forward Principal Engineer of Technical Project Management to bridge the gap between our business partners and GTS. This hybrid position merges strategic project leadership with deep technical oversight, specifically managing enterprise-scale knowledge systems featuring complex user permissions. You will lead the strategy and development of our future-state learning platforms, architecting initiatives that utilize GenAI and Agentic AI for intelligent content discovery and semantic search.

Your scope includes the full project lifecycle - encompassing everything from initial roadmap creation and business translation to architectural design and data-driven ROI measurement. You will ensure our technology investments drive tangible business outcomes while maintaining high standards for data governance and user-centric access management. The successful applicant will have a background in technical leadership, hands-on development experience, and significant expertise within the Google Cloud Platform ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Project Leadership: Lead the strategy and execution of technology projects focused on creating intelligent, agentic solutions for our learning and content platforms.
  • Business & Technical Liaison: Serve as the primary bridge between business units and GTS, translating business needs into detailed technical requirements, user stories, and project roadmaps.
  • Agentic Solution Development: Drive the design and implementation of AI-powered systems, including advanced semantic search, automated content assistants, and multi-agent systems, utilizing natural language processing (NLP), machine learning (ML), and LLMs/SLMs. You must understand GenAI and Agentic AI design paradigms collectively, having built at least a functional prototype to showcase your work. You will use this technical depth to ask the right engineering and architecture questions to drive effective project strategy and implementation, ensuring high-quality semantic ingestion and seamless interoperability across highly variable, distributed data sources.
  • Cloud Architecture & Integration: Leverage the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to design, build, and manage scalable infrastructure for data processing, model training, and application deployment.
  • Hands-On Prototyping: Utilize your coding experience (e.g., Python, JavaScript, Java) and AI-assisted tools like GitHub Copilot to assist in building proofs-of-concept and front-end customizations. You should have the resourcefulness to set up your own local development environments and possess a foundational understanding of GitHub workflows—including how to write code, test automatically, plug into a cloud repository, and run the application.
  • Data-Driven Measurement: Define and implement robust reporting frameworks to measure the effectiveness and ROI of new technology solutions, using data from weblogs, analytics platforms, and user feedback.
  • User-Centric Design: Champion a user-centered design approach, ensuring that all solutions are intuitive, accessible, and effectively meet the needs of our end-users.
  • Agile Project Management: Manage projects within an Agile framework, facilitating sprint planning, tracking progress in tools like Jira and Confluence, and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality solutions.

What we’re looking for...

You’re great at bringing people together from different functions to work towards a common goal. Driving projects forwards gives you a lot of satisfaction, whatever the obstacles you encounter on the way in a rapidly changing environment. You enjoy facilitating and are an excellent communicator, helping everyone to perform at their best.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working as a liaison between business and technical teams.
  • Proficiency in a programming language such as Python or JavaScript. Must have solid foundations in development, including the ability to install/configure your own environment and practical experience with GitHub workflows.
  • Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including services related to AI/ML, LLMs and SLMs, data analytics, and application hosting.
  • Good understanding of frontier, foundation, and open-source models surrounding GenAI and Agentic AI.
  • Proven ability to manage the full project lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment and measurement/ROI. Expertise in creating and maintaining RACI Matrices, RAID Logs, and Project Charters.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies and tools (Jira, Confluence).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Workday HCM, Learning, Recruiting and/or Talent Management Experience
  • Experience developing or managing enterprise search technologies.
  • Thorough understanding of transactional (e.g., Oracle) and non-transactional databases (e.g., Cassandra, MongoDB, Redis, pgvector).
  • At least one active Project Management Certification (CSM, CSPO, or PMP).
  • Familiarity with UX/UI design principles and user acceptance testing (UAT).
  • Knowledge of data visualization and reporting tools (e.g., Adobe Analytics, Looker).
  • Experience authoring user stories and conducting needs analysis.

If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every “even better” qualification listed above.
