Position
Staff Development & Training Intern - OC Community Resources  (unpaid internship)

Deadline to Apply
The deadline for this recruitment is Monday, November 9, 2026, at 11:59 PM (PST).

OC COMMUNITY RESOURCES (OCCR):
OC Community Resources (OCCR) consists of 6 Programs – OCCR Administrative Services, OC Animal Care, OC Community Services, OC Housing & Community Development, OC Parks, and OC Public Libraries. OC Community Resources is committed to connecting people with resources.

THE OPPORTUNITY:
The OCCR Staff Development & Training (SDT) team provides training service and support to the above mentioned Programs. SDT is dedicated to providing quality services to identify training and education needs of the OCCR workforce through surveys and other means, identify resources to deliver training and organizational development programs, and develop and deliver program specific curriculum.

INTERN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties may include assisting staff with one or more of the following assignments or projects:
  • Provide administrative support by preparing electronic files, spreadsheets, reports, presentations, materials, and documents.
  • Update and/or create training materials and resources such as class handouts, checklists, workbooks, flyers, newsletters, catalogs, surveys, etc.
  • Conduct research, analysis, and draft reports/findings on special projects.
  • Assist with set up and breakdown of classroom equipment, furniture, and signage.
  • Participate in day-to-day operations and staff support.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be current college students enrolled in an accredited college/university or be a recent graduate (within 6 months). Internship is best suited for college students or recent graduates with backgrounds in business administration, communications, education, human resources, journalism, instructional design, marketing, organizational development, organizational leadership, psychology, public administration, public relations, sociology, or related fields. Those with an interest in pursuing a career in the public sector and/or in gaining experience within an office/administrative/training environment are encouraged to apply.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
OCCR is seeking applicants with the following qualifications:
  • Demonstrate outstanding customer service
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of and/or interest in the training process
  • Ability to create and implement engaging marketing initiatives
  • Highly organized and dependable
  • Able to complete assignments in a timely manner

TIME COMMITMENT:
Minimum 10 – 20 hours per week for 3 or more months. Hours must be scheduled during normal business hours (Monday – Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.). Valid state-issued license, proof of auto insurance coverage for personal injuries and property damage and a reliable vehicle is ideal in order to assist with events in the field. Applicants able to schedule the maximum hours/duration listed for the internship typically gain a more in-depth experience.

BENEFITS AVAILABLE TO INTERN:

  • Build resumes/work history and explore career options
  • Gain experience in training concepts and professional development
  • Apply skills and knowledge acquired in an academic setting to the workplace
  • Fulfill college/university internship requirements
  • Network with professionals in their fields of interest
  • Mentoring from a Staff Development Specialist

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Applicants must attach a cover letter, resume, and unofficial transcripts to their application. The cover letter is an opportunity for students to describe career and academic goals, to elaborate upon personal and academic accomplishments, and to identify what type of internship experience they are seeking. Learn more about what to include in a cover letter HERE.

Applications that do not include a cover letter, resume, and unofficial transcripts will not be considered.

REQUIRED BACKGROUND SCREENING/REFERENCE CHECK:
Occasionally, interns will be required to drive their own personal vehicle to off-site functions. Mileage reimbursement is available for authorized travel.  Interns who operate a vehicle as part of their duties must possess a valid state-issued license and proof of auto insurance coverage for personal injuries and property damage.
The background screening requires the applicant’s full legal name, date of birth, address and U.S. Social Security number. Turn-around time for the background screening is approximately 72 hours.
