**Ideal candidate will be located in Texas.**

Essential Functions:

• Shadows experienced underwriters to learn company and regional middle market risk appetite and gain experience in developing agency relationships.
• Consults experienced underwriters to ask questions and gain understanding in underwriting best practices. Supports underwriting team by completing tasks, such as reviewing endorsements within authority limit and analyzing assigned new and renewal accounts.
• Under supervision, evaluates basic middle market accounts for risk selection and pricing purposes within limited authority. Analyzes exposure, company and regional risk appetite, account premium and loss history, financial data, line(s) of business, price guidance, motor vehicle records, online sources of information, reports from premium audit or risk improvement and other relevant information to underwrite policies.
• Maintains proper file documentation in connection with accounts.
• Communicates with agents and provides updates on accounts.
• Collaborates with marketing representatives to learn about building relationships and providing agents with good customer experiences, responsiveness, and ensuring they select EMC as their insurer of choice.
• Attends peer training sessions, corporate workshops, and learning courses to enhance underwriting knowledge and skills.

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in insurance or business administration, or equivalent relevant experience
• Insurance designations, such as AINS, AU, CIC or CPCU preferred

Candidates that exceed the minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of commercial insurance products and coverage options preferred
• Good problem-solving and analytical skills and the ability to make sound decisions
• Strong customer service skills
• Ability to work effectively with others, as well as independently
• Ability to maintain high standards of professional competence
• Good computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office and social media
• Ability to work on multiple projects while meeting deadlines
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Good negotiating skills preferred

The hiring salary range for this position will vary based on geographic location, falling within either of the following:

$51,201 - $70,730 or $56,581 - $77,796

A hiring range represents a subset of the full salary range. The actual salary will depend on several factors, including relevant education, skills, and experience of an applicant, geographic location, and business needs.
