Responsibilities
The Assistant General Counsel will provide broad-based legal support to EagleBank—a leading and trusted regional bank in the greater Washington, D.C. area—and its holding company, Eagle Bancorp, Inc., serving as a key member of the Legal Department. This position offers an unparalleled opportunity for almost immediate hands-on experience working directly with the highest levels of the company, including executive management and the Board of Directors. This role requires a highly adaptable attorney who can operate across multiple practice areas and step in wherever the business needs legal guidance. While versatility is essential, the ideal candidate will bring particular depth in employment and/or securities disclosure law. Candidates with litigation backgrounds are particularly valued for the analytical rigor, adaptability, and rapid learning skills that litigation experience cultivates—though the role itself is not necessarily a litigation position
Qualifications
Requirements:
- JD Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
- 2 years legal experience in government, at a law firm, or in-house at a financial institution, with a strong preference for substantive experience in employment and labor law counseling and litigation; securities regulation, public company disclosure, and SEC reporting; or both.
- Admitted to the bar of at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- Eligible for admission to MD, DC, and/or VA via reciprocity or examination within 12 months
- Demonstrated ability to work across multiple legal disciplines and adapt quickly to new subject matter
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to distill complex legal issues into actionable business advice
- Ability to manage competing priorities, work independently, and exercise discretion in a fast-paced environment
- Collaborative mindset with a willingness to roll up sleeves and support colleagues across the Legal Department
- Comfort operating in a lean legal team where generalist flexibility is valued alongside subject-matter depth
Preferences:
- Experience representing financial institutions in lending transactions—including negotiating loan documents, modification agreements, and forbearance agreements, and navigating borrower bankruptcy proceedings
- Familiarity with the regulatory framework governing banks and bank holding companies (e.g., OCC, Federal Reserve, FDIC, CFPB) is highly desirable
